WHAT ARE WE DOING

I spent a week in Palestine seeing firsthand the work Penny Appeal USA is doing. We are supporting Friends of the Blind, a school providing education and mental health services for blind kids in the West Bank. All of the books for these kids are made on special Braille printers in house because of how hard it is to find Arabic and Islamic books in braille. By supporting these children's education, you are providing each child with all the essentials for their emotional, psychological, and physical growth and we can help every child here chase a brighter future that they deserve.

This school was founded to address the lack of resources in the Palestinian education system to help children with disabilities. Many of these children developed vision impairments from being victim to attacks from Israeli soldiers.

The school is run by Sheikh Hayyan Al-Idrisi, a retired judge and former imam of Masjid Al-Aqsa.  A self taught handiman, most of the facilities in this school have been built by Sheikh Hayyan's hands.

The Sheikh set up a braille printing facility inside the school that manufactures all the books that children use in the school.

With your support, 65 children grades 1 to 10 will be sponsored through this project to learn at this school for free and get the education they deserve.

Your support will help cover:

School registration fees for 65 students

Preparing and printing Braille writing-reading curricula packages. 

Part of the stationary materials, food, clothing, medical and transportation. 

 Accommodations for 38 blind and poor eyesight students.

Special “Quran Hifz and reciting” sessions using Braille writing-reading system.

WHO IS DOING IT

I personally traveled to Palestine myself and saw first hand this incredible effort PennyAppealUSA is doing. I can personally vouch for this as one of many efforts this fantastic non-profit has done to empower thousands of women and children around the world by uplifting them from poverty.

WHY PALESTINE

The Palestinian people have been victim to some of the most egregious human rights violations in the world today. Israeli soldiers have set up checkpoints all throughout the country making even simple errands like running to the grocery store for milk take hours. Israeli settlements, declared as illegal by the United Nations, are built on Palestinian land, including one overlooking this school. Israeli snipers in this settlement have opened fire on the school before in the past but thankfully no one was hurt.

It goes without saying how each and every one of us yearn for peace in Palestine.  But it's so easy for us to forget or take for granted how difficult life is for these beloved people. The rest of the world may have turned a blind eye on them, but here is an opportunity to step up bring light to these children yearning to see a better tomorrow.
