Solar Powered Water Purification Stations for Gaza

Every Ramadan, the IlmFeed team selects a worthy project to fundraise for in order to make a real change in people's lives. Last year we successfully raised funds to pay for 100 prosthetic limbs for Syrians who lost a limb as a result of the war in Syria.

This Ramadan, we want to help provide safe drinking water for thousands of people in Gaza which has been under blockade for more than a decade.

British charity Muslim Aid are raising funds in order to provide 51 solar powered water purification stations across Gaza.

Through this fundraiser, we want to raise money for at least 5 water stations inshaAllah.

96% of Water in Gaza is unsafe to drink.

In March 2018, the Middle East Monitor reported that 96% of Gaza’s water is polluted (UNRWA) making the water unsafe to drink.

In an area with two million people, living on 365 km2, water quality, scarcity and inadequacy are posing a serious threat to people’s life.

Sadly, polluted water has resulted in increased numbers of diarrhoea cases among children under the age of three.  There has also been a negative effect on health, especially on children and pregnant women with risks of kidney and urinary tract diseases.

Safe drinking water for thousands

The water purification stations we are raising funds for are state of the art and are able to purify polluted water through a desalination process by removing harmful substances from the water.

The water stations will be installed in schools to provide much needed drinking water for the children of Gaza.

5 stations will purify around 25,000 litres of clean water per day. This will provide safe drinking water for 3,750 people per day.

Solar powered

There are many water projects currently set up in Gaza which provide much needed clean water to the people of Gaza. However, when there is a power cut, they are no longer operational.

An ongoing fuel crisis caused by the blockades means there are regular power outages and blackouts across Gaza. Sometimes they only have 4 hours of electricity per day.

This project is unique because the water purification systems are powered by electricity generated via solar power which means they can be kept running even if there is a power cut.

The cost

One water purification system costs £10,000. This includes acquisition of water purification system and solar panels, transport, delivery, installation and maintenance training.

This Ramadan, with your help, we want to raise enough to pay for 5 water purification systems.

Providing water is the best charity

Sa’d ibn Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.” Source: Sunan al-Nasā’ī

InshaAllah together, we can reach the target this Ramadan. Donate whatever you can – large or small. Share this page with your family and friends via social media, WhatsApp etc. and encourage them to donate.

Help IlmFeed Build a Village for Syrians Forced to Leave their Homes

Assalamualaykum

Hope you are having a productive Ramadan.

I just wanted to tell you about IlmFeed's campaign this Ramadan. Insha Allah we aim to build 50 homes in Northern Syria to re-home 50 Syrian families who have been forced to leave their homes and are currenly living in tents which lack basic security and hygiene.

The village will help to preserve the life, dignity and well-being of the neediest families who are currently taking shelter in tents.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever helps ease someone in difficulty, Allah will make it easy for him in this world and in the Hereafter." Source: Sahih Muslim

We have already raised enough to build 7 homes but we need your help to reach 50. Please donate whatever you can, large or small so that we can bring hope to our Syrian brothers and sisters.

Gaza Needs Your Help Again!

Assalamualaykum

I just wanted to thank you again for donating to our Solar Powered Water Purification Units for Gaza a couple of years ago and I just wanted to let you know about another opportunity to earn Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous rewards) this Ramadan.

This Ramadan we have set up an appeal for intensive care beds in Gaza and vital life-saving medical equipment. The Palestinian authorities have requested help and IlmFeed have teamed up with Islamic Relief to raise funds for 5 ICU beds and medical equipment as soon as possible.

Gaza’s hospitals are under-resourced, and the Palestinian authorities have put an urgent appeal out for help. Only 20 intensive care beds and equipment are available to treat patients from a population of 1.8m people and if there was to be a COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak, it would have catastrophic consequences!

Please donate whatever amount you can. This will be a means of sadaqah jariyah which means you'll get rewarded every time someone's life is saved using the medical equipment for many years to come.

May Allah accept your deeds.

Re: Solar Powered Water Purification Stations

Assalamualaykum

Last Ramadan you donated towards the water purification stations in Gaza which have been providing much needed clean water for the people of Gaza.

This year, IlmFeed are raising funds to build a school for Rohingya children who have faced much persecution and seen things which no child should ever see. Education plays a key role in taking people out of poverty and this is why we have chosen to raise money for a school this Ramadan.

We would really appreciate it if you all could get involved once again and donate generously. Together, we can make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of children.

Food for Yemen Campaign

Assalamualaykum

Did you know? The war in Yemen which began in 2015 has devastated the country and an estimated 85,000 children under the age of five have starved to death as a result (source: Save the Children).

Around 14 million people - which is half of Yemen’s population – are currently at risk of famine. Yemen could be facing the worst famine in 100 years.

Many people have got in touch with IlmFeed asking us to raise money for the people of Yemen so we have launched this fundraiser to raise money in order to send food to our brothers and sisters in Yemen.

We will be working with UK registered charity Human Relief Foundation who are on the ground. A team will be heading to Yemen at the end of the month and they will be sharing updates on IlmFeed's social media accounts.

Through this fundraiser we want to raise at least £50,000 which will provide 10 trucks full of food containing rice, flour and ground wheat to the people of Yemen.

Each truck will contain 7 tonnes of food which will feed around 230 families for an entire month.

The Prophet ﷺ praised the people of Yemen:

The Prophet ﷺ said, “The people of Yemen have come to you and they are more gentle and soft-hearted. Belief is Yemenite and Wisdom is Yemenite, while pride and haughtiness are the qualities of the owners of camels (i.e. bedouins). Calmness and solemnity are the characters of the owners of sheep.” (Sahih Al Bukhari)

The Prophet ﷺ beckoned with his hand towards Yemen and said, “Belief (Eeman) is there.” (Sahih Al Bukhari)

InshaAllah together, we can reach the target. Donate whatever you can – large or small. Share this page with your family and friends via social media, WhatsApp etc. and encourage them to donate.

We did it!

Alhamdulillah we did it! We have hit our target which means we have raised enough to pay for 5 solar powered water purification stations which will be able to purify up to 25,000 litres of undrinkable sea water a day.

May Allah reward you for donating and make it a means of sadaqah jariyah.

A third of Ramadan is still remaining therefore we’re increasing the target to £60,000 so that we can help more of our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Please continue to share with your friends and family: launchgood.com/waterforgaza

One Water Purification Station Funded! - Alhamdulillah!

Great news! Your generous donation has meant that we have raised enough money to fund one solar powered water purification station 😊. This will purify up to 5,000 litres of water per day and provide much needed clean and safe drinking water to the people of Gaza.

Our goal is to raise funds for five water purification stations this Ramadan which means we need to raise £40,000 more.

We can do it together!

Please spread the word and share the link with your family & friends and encourage them to donate.

Perhaps think of an amount you'd like to raise and get pledges from people you know through apps like WhatsApp and on social media. For example, if you think you can raise £/$1,000, contact 10 people and encourage them to donate £/$100 each.
