Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un
We are heartbroken to share the tragic and heart-wrenching story of six-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume, a vibrant young boy who had his whole life ahead of him. Wadea and his mother, Hanaan Shahin, are the victim of a horrific hate crime, a senseless act of violence and Islamophobia that has shattered a family and the hearts of many.
We need your support to ensure Wadea receives a proper Janazah (funeral), his mother's medical expenses are covered, and to create a Sadaqah Jariyah, a lasting legacy in his memory.
Hanaan Shahin is currently fighting in the hospital with critical injuries, expected to live. We cannot allow her to return back to the home where she experienced such trauma. These funds will also be used to support Hanaan in moving to a safe space where she can feel comfortable.

On a fateful day in October, Wadea and his mother, Hanaan Shahin, experienced an unimaginable nightmare in their own home. A man, driven by hate, knocked on their door and proceeded to attack them. He mercilessly stabbed Wadea to death and critically injured his mother, Hanaan, who is currently fighting for her life in the hospital. The last words Wadea heard from his attacker were, "You Muslims must die."
Wadea was not just any child; he was a bright and energetic young boy who loved basketball and soccer. He liked swings and coloring. He loved his family and his friends, he loved life.
His dreams, his laughter, and his life were taken away in a matter of seconds, leaving his family and community in profound grief. He had no clues about the larger issues that were happening in the world, but he was made to pay for it. Every person, woman, Muslim, and especially a child deserves to live free from the threat of such evil.
Janazah (Funeral) for Wadea: Wadea deserves a peaceful and dignified farewell. Your contribution will help us provide him with a proper Janazah (funeral) in accordance with Islamic tradition, ensuring that he finds peace and tranquility in his final resting place.
Medical Expenses for Hanaan: Hanaan Shahin, Wadea's mother, is battling severe injuries sustained during the attack. She has a long road to recovery, both physically and emotionally. Your donations will assist in covering the extensive medical expenses required to support her on this journey to healing.
Housing Assistance for Hanaan: A portion of funds will be dedicated to providing safe and secure housing for Wadea’s mother, Hanaan.
Sadaqah Jariyah for Wadea: In memory of Wadea, we intend to create a Sadaqah Jariyah, a continuous charity that will benefit others in his name. This will be a lasting legacy for the innocent child who was taken from us far too soon.
Wadea's story highlights the disturbing consequences of hate and discrimination. Our community is hurting, and we cannot allow such hatred to persist. We call for justice, but we also call for unity, compassion, and solidarity.
Hanaan Shahin is currently fighting serious bodily injuries at the hospital from the attack, but the trauma of the gore she experienced and witnessed will be scars she'll have to carry for the rest of her life. She will be feeling Wadea's loss more than anyone, but she is forced to mourn alone rather than in the warm embrace of family and community at this time.
By donating to this campaign, you are not only helping Wadea in supporting his legacy and assisting his mother to receive the care she desperately needs, but you are also sending a powerful message against hate. Your support ensures that Wadea's memory lives on, inspiring positive change and encouraging an end to the dehumanization of the Muslim community.
Join us in our mission to stand up against hate, provide solace to Wadea's family, and work towards a world where no child ever has to face such senseless violence. Your support will be a beacon of hope in this dark time.
"Whoever relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve their hardship on the Day of Resurrection" (Hadith-Sahih Muslim).
Let us heed the call of compassion and justice, coming together as a community to assist a family in their time of grief.
Your kindness is a guiding light in times of darkness, and your support exemplifies the essence of community and solidarity. May Allah reward you abundantly for your compassion and goodwill.
