Hundreds of people were killed and at least 5,000 were wounded in a massive explosion that shook Beirut on the 4th of August, according to Lebanon's health minister.

Hundreds have been reported missing, raising fears that the death toll will rise, the health minister said Wednesday. 

More than 300,000 people have been displaced from their homes. Authorities declared Beirut a "disaster city" and imposed a two-week state of emergency.

Before this catastrophe, Lebanon was already suffering from a severe economic collapse. Families have had to go months hungry and have had to make other sacrifices to survive. Simple protections like masks and gloves were luxuries. More than 50% of the population was living in poverty. 

In addition to the explosion, power outages, overcrowded hospitals, COVID-19, and an economic crisis, Lebanon now has less than a month's worth of a grain.

It does not have the capacity to help all its citizens. They rely on humanitarian organizations like us.
