Our Unified Mission:

Our mission is simple: Help remove the debt for women in Bangladesh that are stuck due to neverending interest. There are women in debt to moneylenders who took loans for basic necessities like food and are unable to pay it back because of added interest. By freeing them from these debts, we can put them on a track to get an education, start their own business and create their own income. The One Ummah Foundation and OBAT Helpers have a proven track record of delivering aid to some of the world's most vulnerable communities.

About OBAT Helpers

OBAT Helpers is a dedicated 501(C)3 non-profit organization committed to providing aid, support, education, and economic empowerment to displaced, stranded, and refugee populations residing in camps in Bangladesh. Its origins trace back to September 2004 when it was established as a family initiative by the founders, Anwar and Afshan Khan, named after the first letters of their parents' names: Obaid, Bilquis, Aman, and Tayyaba. 

The focus of OBAT Helpers has been on serving a community known by various names such as stranded Pakistanis, Biharis, or Urdu-speaking people. These individuals have silently suffered for more than 50 years in makeshift camps scattered across Bangladesh due to a civil war between East and West Pakistan, resulting in unresolved political conflicts between the two regions. With over 300,000 people living in dire conditions, lacking access to basic amenities, and living in abject poverty, OBAT Helpers aims to alleviate their hardships and bring dignity and self-sufficiency to their lives. 

The core mission of OBAT Helpers is to provide access to education, healthcare, infrastructure, and empowerment initiatives to displaced and disadvantaged people while fostering sustainable community development. By empowering beneficiaries through education and skill-building, the organization aims to help them attain financial independence and lead better lives.
