SAMS Responds. 

The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is responding to the Syrian regime chemical attacks by providing ambulances for patients sent to hospitals and Intensive Care units in Idlib and Hama. Help donate to SAMS so these materials can be distributed to affected areas: 

• atropine (antidote for nerve agent)
•  face mask gears
•  chemical suits
• decontamination units
•  syringes
•  medical waste boxes
  

SAMS has received over 350 chemical attack victims since March 25th at 8 different hospitals, including 201 patients from the Khan Sheikoun attack. SAMS has also provided ambulances for patients sent to hospitals and Intensive Care Units in Idlib and Hama. Staff members reconstructed and reactivated a bombed hospital  in just four days.

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING?

Chemical Attacks.

Barrel bombs, containing toxic chemicals and gases including the nerve gas sarin, were dropped on civilians in the early morning hours of April 4, on the town of Khan Sheikoun in Idlib, Syria,  killing at least 80 people, 40 of them children, and injuring over 700.  This is the largest chemical weapon attack in Syria since August 2013.

Hospitals Bombed. 

In the hours following the chemical attack, the Syrian government targeted the main hospital in Khan Sheikhoun, as well two offices of the Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets) with air strikes. This double-tap strike has left victims struggling to receive urgently needed care.  The hospital, where victims of the attack were being treated, is now partially destroyed and out of service surrounding hospitals are struggling to fill the gap left by this main hospital.  

SAMS is responding by providing ambulances and by distributing materials such as atropine, face masks, syringes, and medical waste boxes. SAMS continues to treat patients in their facilities in the area even though some have been partially destroyed.
