Salam-u-alaykum, we need your help to educate the local Columbus community and bring awareness of our religion of Islam through our planned services and events!

Support our MSA to educate students and the general community about the religion of Islam.

1. Our organization is running low on funds. We need to raise money in order to provide our student population, which include both Muslim and non-Muslim students on the Columbus campus, as well as community members, with services that will increase everyone's overall knowledge of Islam along with its teachings and its view on certain contemporary topics that are popular among college students. Our organization aims to break down and challenge the typical stereotype of Muslims through our services and aims to develop understanding and cooperation among the organization and campus community. Therefore, these funds will be used to pay speakers that will come and give talks at our MSA and serve that purpose - to educate the wider community about Islam. We had many of our big events that have just past us this fall, one of which included our annual Fast-A-Thon. This served as a function to raise awareness of food insecurity in our local communities and lend a helping hand to those in need. All the proceeds for this event will be going to charity. Alhamdulillah, we were able to raise over $2500 for those in need in our local community! However, with that good news, we will also need help in covering some of the miscellaneous expenses associated with this event. In addition, we will need increased funding for many of our upcoming events in the spring. This includes Half Our Ummah, which will serve as a marriage seminar aimed at educating Muslim students on ways to find a potential spouse in a halal way, as well as Discover Islam week, which will be a week-long service where we will reach out to the general college community to help educate people and erase misconceptions about Islam.

2. Spread the knowledge of Islam to our Muslim & non-Muslim community. Some Muslims today, especially American-Muslim college students, seem skeptical about their faith due to the attacks that occur in the name of Islam. Of course, this goes without saying that many non-Muslims are confused about the true nature of Islam through what is smeared by what they see in the news and the actions of those that claim to be Muslim and commit these violent atrocities. Many seem to be stuck in this mentality of confusion and falsehood, and don't know how to differentiate the wrong information from the right. However, as Allah (swt) says in Surah Baqarah, verse number 143:

And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful. [2:143]

In this verse, Allah mentions that he made us the 'just community' or 'the middle nation' (the translation does not do justice to the verse); the nation that is on the middle path of righteousness and piety. In'sha'Allah (God willing), with your support, we are going to be able to provide services to the Muslim and non-Muslim students and community that will establish and spread the sound teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah and hopefully portray the correct image of Islam to the Columbus community. We will also strive to examine and address with clarity the many controversies and problems that the general Muslim community has been facing in recent years. Humans are imperfect and we need to be constantly reminded, and with the will of Allah (God), our MSA hopes to foster that through the speakers that we bring to our campus and the community dialogues we have during the halaqahs (religious gatherings) and General Body Meetings (GBMs).

3. Help us expand our base. With increased funding, the Muslim Students Association at the Ohio State University will be able to focus primarily on becoming one of the largest religious clubs on campus and one of the biggest MSAs in the mid-west. We are currently collaborating with local masajid (like the Noor Islamic Cultural Center in Dublin, Ohio) and will hopefully reach out to connect with more masajid to expand our reach. In addition, we will use our funds to help other projects set up by the Muslim Students Association. This includes the aforementioned Discover Islam week, where we will break down misconceptions that the general Ohio State community has about Islam. This also includes many of our social events, like the Spring BBQ and our High Tea event, which will serve as functions that will allow general body members to interact with each other and enjoy being a part of this organization!

JazakAllahu Khairan for taking your time to read through this, and if you would like to see some images of some of the events hosted by our MSA, please look at the pictures taken below. Please donate if you can! We completely understand that we are not individuals in desperate need of basic necessities/aid like many of the amazing fundraisers on this site but we are an organization that needs YOUR help in order to continue to expand and provide services to the general public. Giving sadaqah (charity) will always increase you in your sustenance (rizq), as Allah says in the Surah Baqarah verse 261:

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. [2:261]

Look at the example of the one who spends in the way of Allah! Your charity will be multiplied and re-compensated by the One who provided you with your sustenance (rizq) in the first place, even when you donate to a cause as small as ours. However, if you are still unable to donate, please make du'a and pray for our organization to be on the right path and for the success of our MSA throughout our upcoming years. May Allah accept your sadaqah and may He reward you abundantly with better health, wealth and happiness in this Dunya and the best life in the Hereafter. Ameen!
