This campaign aims to raise funds to highlight the situation of Palestinians living under suffocating siege in the Gaza Strip since 2006.

The Plight of Palestinians in Gaza

The people of Gaza, 67% of them are refugees, have been living under suffocating Israeli-Egyptian siege imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2006. The siege has claimed the lives of hundreds of Palestinians who were in desperate need for medication and could not leave Gaza in time. It has destroyed the dreams of thousands of students are still suck inside the Gaza Strip without being able to leave. The UN said Gaza will be an unlivable place by 2020. The truth is Gaza is not a livable place today. Some 80% of Gaza’s youths are unemployed. Palestinians have up to four hours of electricity a day. Nearly 97% of Gaza’s water is unfit for human consumption. In brief, a catastrophe is looming in the horizon if urgent action is not taken sooner than later.

Since 2008, Israel has launched three offensives on the Gaza Strip, claiming the lives of thousands of Palestinians, and injuring tens of thousands of them, let alone destroying nearly some 25,000 housing units in the costal enclave. According to international law, Israel is still considered the occupying power in the Gaza Strip, as it controls its sea, land and air borders. Israel still controls the records of registration of the population and the infrastructure, in addition to the movement of people and goods.

Why this campaign?

This campaign aims at highlighting the current situation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by documenting human rights violations against them following 12 years of siege. The Euro-Med aims to connect with decision-makers and politicians to pressure them to bring about chance in the Gaza Strip and improve the situation of two-million Palestinians in Gaza. The Euro-Med will do so by providing the concerned bodies and governments with the latest statistics concerning the situation of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Euro-Med wants to create a platform for the people of Gaza to help them speak up about violations committed against them under siege, in order to bring about change.

Objectives of the campaign:

1. Making the people of Gaza feel that they are not alone, despite being isolated from the rest of the world.

2. Raising awareness about human rights violations against besieged Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

3. Documenting the latest situation and violations against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

4. Providing concerned bodies and governments with the latest statistics regarding Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

5. Holding parties that impose the siege on Gaza accountable.

What will the Euro-Med do?

The Euro-Med teams will undertake a range of activities to raise awareness about the situation in the Gaza Strip, which includes writing articles and documenting the plight of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

• The Euro-Med Monitor teams will interview Palestinians from Gaza from different areas and age groups

• The Euro-Med will hold events and discussions with experts to better understand the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip.

• Hold popular meetings with ordinary people to know how the siege affected ordinary people.

• Forming a special committee of experts and jurists to develop a material to be adopted as a comprehensive guide to Palestinians in Gaza’s rights.

• The working group will hold meeting with international NGOs working in the Gaza Strip to discuss the findings with them in order to pressure for organizing an international summit to support infrastructure and living conditions.
