Support Community Education and Development in Pakistan.

Support Sitara Trust

It Takes a Village......

To raise a child, as the saying goes and it's all the more true in the Muslim  ummah, our global village. Struggling communities around the world have all sorts of needs. Those of us blessed with more must step up and help those with less. It's the right thing to do and it's what Allah expects of us. Sitara's 2019 Fundraising Campaign gives you a precious opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the lives of your Muslim brothers and sisters halfway around the globe through education and community development in Chatha Bakhtawar, Pakistan.

New Projects

Since establishing Sitara School in 2011, we've been transforming the lives of children through education. But we've always known that grass roots community development would have an even greater impact on the lives of our students and their families. In 2018,  with Allah's infinite grace and generous donor support, Sitara School and Teachers' Institute became Sitara Trust and started three new projects: our Mother Child Center, Craft Center and Sitara Farms and Orchards. Each project focuses on a particular aspect of community development.

The Mother Child Center (SMCC) strives to address the needs of the most destitute mothers and children in our town. We offer free medical clinics and basic literacy education, Quran and sewing classes. Child care is free. The Center is housed on the second floor in a residential neighborhood that is near to the homes in the katchi abadi where most of our mothers and adolescent girls live.  Graduates of this program will receive an adult literacy diploma from Allama Iqbal Open University within three years. We are offering a chance to grow and the response from mothers with young children and adolescent girls has been wonderful.

The "Lost Ones" Return

One of the most beautiful outcomes of the Mother Child Center has been the return of the children we lost. When Sitara first began, many students came and went, including a certain group of working children. Their families were in the recycling business and they lived their lives in the streets, picking up trash and playing with their friends, not sitting in a classroom. Their parents needed them to earn their bread, as the mother of one four year old child had told me. When we opened the SMCC, they came back, one by one, mostly adolescents now. They work in the early morning and on weekends cutting grass, and picking up recyclables and in the evening they sell candy and other small items in the marketplace. When the morning work is done they come to school. It makes our day to see them!

Sitara School and Girls' High School

Sitara has won a place in the hearts of the community. Our elementary classes are full and our girls' high school is flourishing. Fees are heavily subsidized with payments based on family need, determined by application and interviews. About 65% of the students attend for free. Our Science and Computer labs draw many students from the business class community to us. When children of different socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds grow up together in school, age-old biases and prejudices break down and the whole community benefits, Alhamdulilah.

Self Sustainable Agriculture

Sitara Farms and Orchards has a small contingent of local farmers using organic farming methods and indigenous fertilizers to produce roses, eucalyptus trees (for timber), fruit and walnut trees. Its objective is to introduce modern, sustainable agriculture to the area. Four thousand rose bushes should produce a quick and ready crop while the fruit and nut trees will take longer to produce. The long term goals of the farm are to produce self sustainable income for the projects of the Trust and to be a source of hands-on learning and natural recreation for the community.

Our New Status

As we broadened our mission to include not only school but also community welfare and development, we changed our name to  Sitara Trust, a registered legal philanthropic organization. By legal definition in Pakistan , ownership of a Trust rests with Allah (SWT) and we, the Board of Directors and concerned members are the trustees of Allah (SWT) in this project. This makes us accountable to Him for every dollar spent on this project. Instead of expanding vertically in the field of children's education, we have decided to expand horizontally, deepening our ties in one community to produce measurable change. We encourage you to donate generously to help us raise a model community of mothers, fathers and children here in Chatha Bakhtawar, a community that will learn to stand on it's own merits. They will not forget those who helped them along the way. And neither will He.  Jazak Allahu khairun.

Would you help them for a Dollar?

Assalamu alaykum Friends,
Only three days left for our LG campaign. You can still earn some Ramadan blessings and help us reach our goal. At 90k, we are 90% there! We are grateful for what you've done, but still need a bit of help. If you could give us just $5-10 (more or less) we would be at 100K in no time. So do it now, if you possibly can, and spread the word. Do it for the kids! Launchgood.com/sitaraturns10. Thank you!

Sitara Needs YOU!

Dear LG donors,

Assalamu alaykum! Alhamdulilah, this week marked the end of our most unusual school year. in spite of Covid lockdowns and start ups, the 300 children of Sitara were able to take their final exams and graduate. Nobody knows what the next year will hold, but we intend to do our best to educate and support these needy children. You have helped us before and I'm sure you'd do more if you could. Sharing our links is one way to continue helping so share them far and wide. We are reaching the last ten days of Ramadan, when your charity can be of unlimited value, so please keep Sitara in your donation plans once again and urge your friends and family to contribute too. Our recent video, https://youtu.be/gG3rvgnWsFc is the story of one boy told through the eyes of another. It captures the true essence of our mission, Ensuring the Right to an Education for All.

Jazak Allahu khairun for all of your support. May Allah accept all our deeds this Ramadan and keep our intentions pure. All the best, Sommieh Flower

Important. Please Read

Assalamu alaykum dear Friends and Supporters,

Ramadan Kareem!

I need to tell you about something incredible LaunchGood has done. It’s something unheard of in the financial world and it’s proof of their sincere intent to launch good by living up to the Quranic verse that first inspired them eight years ago: You’re meant to be the best community brought forth for mankind.(S.3, V. 110, Holy Quran)

Let me explain what I mean. To support our fund-raising efforts, Launchgood offers marketing packages. These packages guarantee a 1x ROI (return on investment). No company does that. Return on investment is always a risk the buyer has to take. But LG provides its services to those who represent the most needy among us; refugees, orphans, widows, victims of war and impoverished people in critical situations around the globe. The last thing we need is to lose money for those we seek to help! So LG made it impossible to lose. Fund raising campaigns usually double or triple their return on investment with LG and there are countless success stories.

After tracking a significant decline in 2021 donations over previous years, LG made a noble decision: They are giving a 50% refund on marketing packages to all groups that have bought one, effective immediately. And they still plan to work just as hard to help us all make the money we need to fund our causes. This means if anybody loses, it will be Launchgood, not us.

Friends, it is our turn to step up to keep Launchgood on its feet. Support Sitara and other great causes with a donation of whatever size you can afford. Helping us will actually help Launchgood to fund thousands of deserving causes. We don’t want this vibrant, innovative, award-winning platform to suffer a loss because of pandemic related causes.  It’s time to stand up for an organization that has always stood by us. Please continue supporting your causes through Launchgood.  Give less than you have in the past, but at least make a contribution. The hand of Allah is with the jamaat. And as we all know, crowd-funding demands a crowd! Donate to Sitara at Launchgood.com/sitaraturns10. Join the Ramadan Challenge on the LG website, share this message far and wide and pray for the best outcome for all. Thank you!

With du’a for our mutual success,

Sitara Turns 10!

Assalamu alaykum dear Friends and Supporters,

Ramadan Kareem! I hope your month will be filled with unlimited blessings. Sitara Trust celebrated our 10th anniversary this year! Where did the time go? Some of you have been with us since the beginning. May Allah reward you immensely for that.

One of the things that's improved in our recent campaigns is our pictures. It's all because of photographer Kiren Javed, pictured below. She offers her creative eye to us completely free of charge and puts in hours of time to make just the right impression. When you see our new video you will know the quality of her work.

The children in the picture with Kiren are part of our latest project, the SMCC, Mother Child Center. They live right where you see them in this picture, coming to school in uniform in the morning and then going to work, selling, picking up trash or begging door to door in the afternoon. Your dollars have made it possible for us to give them an education, so that boys like Imran (in the purple) and girls like Shapari, in the brown scarf, can get at least a basic education, more than their parents have, and can work toward a future that promises more than just recycling trash. Can you help?

You have seen many pictures of our Sitara School children, in class and in uniform, happy, smiling, playing. Although they  are poor, most are better off than these refugees. However, they all deserve an education, and that's what Sitara is about: Ensuring the right to an education for all.

If you haven't already done so, please check out our latest campaign and see the full range of what we can offer these children, with Allah's mercy and your generosity. Please go to Launchgood.com/sitaraturns10 and make a donation today. You can also join the Ramadan Challenge at launchgood.com/ramadan?src=639. If you do, Sitara gets $50.00 from Launchgood.

Do it for the kids. Some of us may have less than we did last Ramadan, but no matter what, we have more than these children. Our Prophet Muhammad(s) would not sleep if one grain of barley were left in his house, and not given away to the poor. The rations we give at Sitara are in the form of education. Inshallah, it will have a more  lasting impact in their lives than the daily rupees they must earn for their bread.

Have a wonderful Ramadan and keep us in your prayers,

Sommieh Flower, Director, Sitara Trust
