No one will understand wars until he survives one

I'm Walid Mahmoud, 34, resided in a small village in the Gaza Strip.

Life in the village was harsh, marked by many challanges,My village was famous for agriculture.

Over the past years, the Israeli occupation has been attacking the villagers.

During the past 196 days, like other parts of Gaza, they experienced moments of terror and fear,They tried to flee from one place to another to save their lives from constant bombing,They moved between United Nations schools and homes until they ended up in an escape camp, Living there is more than miserable due to a lack of basics.

As of writing this letter, the Israeli army spokesman has threatened to attack Rafah, He has also threatened to invade it.

It is the only city where over two million displaced people have sought refuge.

The Gaza Strip has no safe place, Israel has destroyed the infrastructure and turned the Strip into rubble,With your generous support, I will be able to save the lives of my 14 members, along with my nephews, I will help them go to Egypt through the crossing, They will stay there until the war ends, Then, they will return to rebuild their lives in the Gaza Strip.

Over the last 17 years, I dedicated my time documenting the daily lives of Gazans and assisting those in need, led many initiatives That made Gazans more resilient.

They included projects, like solar installations, to light dark hours.. It also included covering tuition fees for students in Gaza. And, giving out clothing during winter, Ramadan, and Eid.

Today, I am asking for your personal help to save my family.

We achieved 11% of the goal, I hope you will help me reach it before the occupation attacks and invades Rafah.

Walid,

love and peace to you All

10% Raised to help my family

I am Walid Mahmoud from Gaza, and for the past 12 years I have been a tireless activist shining a light on the heartbreaking struggles of the Palestinian people. Nine years ago, horror struck my own home when it was mercilessly bombed. Now, amid the relentless onslaught of aggression on Gaza, my family's sanctuary has been ravaged once again. It was with a heavy heart that I made the agonising decision to evacuate my loved ones and seek refuge beyond the borders of this war-torn land.

My in-laws, seven vulnerable souls, now look to me as their sole provider and protector. The burden weighs heavily on my shoulders as I strive to protect them from the unrelenting chaos that surrounds us. They too have endured the agony of displacement, uprooted from their homes by the relentless tide of war. From makeshift shelters in UNRWA schools to meagre tents and the fleeting hospitality of relatives, their journey has been one of unrelenting grief and despair.

Tragically, their once beloved agricultural village near the border, Khuza'a, has been in ruins since it was completely destroyed in 2014. Despite our tireless efforts and sacrifices amidst the harsh economic realities of Gaza, the homes we had painstakingly rebuilt were cruelly torn apart again in 2023.

Now, as we face the daunting prospect of rebuilding shattered lives, we face an insurmountable obstacle: the staggering financial burden that lies ahead. The amount needed to provide a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness that engulfs us is approximately $90,000 to $100,000.

With heavy hearts and tear-stained faces, we ask you, kind souls, to help us in our hour of need. Every contribution, no matter how small, is a ray of light in the darkness, a beacon of hope leading us to a brighter tomorrow.

Together, let us rewrite the narrative of despair and anguish and offer comfort and refuge to those who have known nothing but suffering.

Help Evacuate my Family Extend a Lifeline, Restore Hope

This war has taken almost everything away from me.

My home and the homes of virtually every single member of my family were bombed, destroyed, or razed by Israel; all my memories, cherished belongings and community have been reduced to rubble and ashes.

Thankfully, I still have my family and loved ones, but I’m extremely terrified and haunted by the thought of losing them. There is nowhere safe for them to be; they currently huddle in a primitive tent in dire conditions with little food and water in the Mawasi area after being displaced multiple times, and even there, the IDF has attacked the area multiple times. I’m particularly worried about my ailing father, Mahmoud, who cannot endure these conditions for long.

I have no choice but to seek a way out of Gaza for my family; to evacuate my parents, siblings, nephews, and nieces to safety. And for that, I desperately need your help, kindness, and generosity.

Right now, the only way to get my family out is to pay a fee to the Egyptian government of $5,000 per person and $2,500 per child.

Please help me see my family again and get them to safety before it’s too late.

Thank You for Your Generosity and Compassion.

SALAM FROM WALID MAMHOUD

I was born in a village called Khuza'a, raised amidst its lanes, and hold countless family memories within its borders.

This agricultural village, situated near the Israeli border, was a cradle of my childhood.

Just days ago, the Israeli military stormed into our village and demolished 90% of the residents' homes.

They broadcasted their acts of destruction, turning all my memories into rubble within seconds.

The world continues to watch the unfolding atrocities in Gaza with no significant reaction to halt this brutal.

Now, 97% of the population of the Gaza Strip residing in displacement camps, devoid of basic life necessities.

A severe shortage of food and water prevails, and diseases are rampant. Israel is committing war crimes against civilians.

This genocide has been ongoing for 90 days.

Words fail to describe the horror of our reality, yet despite this, we hold onto hope.

We look to you to offer assistance, raise awareness, and exert pressure on governments to stop this annihilation.

Your awareness and action can help change our dire circumstances.

The humanitarian situation is extremely difficult. Please contact your government and ask them for an urgent intervention to stop the aggression on Gaza.

The Gaza Strip needs no introduction

Unemployment rates are rising yearly, life prospects are bleak, and many children and families are living merely to survive. Winter in the slums and refugee camps can be hard-hitting; but can we even make a small difference?!
The generosity of our donors has made our winter campaign possible.

Story
The situation in Gaza is terrible this winter
The Gaza Strip is one of the worst places in the world to be this winter. Thousands of families are living in slums and makeshift shelters that flood with freezing water when it rains, and offer little protection from the harsh winter temperatures. The nights are bitterly cold, and fuel for cooking and heating is scarce. Pregnant women and small children are living in these shocking conditions.
Gaza is part of the Palestinian territories, bordered by Egypt and on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It has a population of 1.9 million, and after years of bitter conflict, the people of Gaza are some of the most vulnerable in the world.
Devastation and suffering
The current situation in Gaza is bleak. The escalations of violence has shattered infrastructure, destroyed more than 18,000 homes and torn families apart. 50% of the population of the Gaza Strip live below the poverty line and 44% of households are experiencing food insecurity.
Gaza's public health system suffers from shortages in skilled staff and medical supplies. 17 hospitals and 56 primary healthcare facilities have been destroyed or severely damaged by the hostilities. Hundreds of amputees have been left waiting for prosthetic limbs, and delays in performing elective surgeries cause unnecessary pain, frustration and increase the chances of infection. The constant power cuts make delivering vital services very difficult, and the electricity deficit has reached a high point of 65%.
Gazas children in crisis
In any conflict, children endure the most suffering. The children of Gaza have witnessed horrors that no young person should have to see. They live in fear, without stability or security.
More than 160,000 children are in desperate need of continuous psychological support due to the trauma caused by living through a terrible conflict.
Palestinian children living in Gaza are being denied an education, as bombing has rendered 50% of all kindergartens and 30% of schools unfit for use. The UN estimates that 1,000 of the 2,955 children injured due to the violence will be permanently disabled.
What can I do to help?
Friendship for Relief and Development is in Palestine, providing humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza this winter. Emergency provisions, including food parcels, warm clothes and shoes, blankets, and mattresses, are being distributed to vulnerable families who completely rely on this support. The generosity of our donors has made our winter campaign possible.
With your help, we can save lives in Gaza and bring an end to the suffering of innocent children.

Join us. Act now.

QURBANI 2022

What is QURBANI 2022 Project?

Starting from this, FRIENDSHIP FOR RELIF AND DEVELOPMENT (FRD)  implements Qurbani Project each year as part of its Al-Adha Eid projects.

This project targets the most vulnerable families living in GAZA and is implemented yearly all over the GAZA STRIP .

It is considered a crucial project due to its role in strengthening the bonds between the members of the communities (the privileged with the under-privileged) as well as providing the people who perform the ritual of sacrifice during the Adha Eid with the opportunity to donate the fresh meat to the most vulnerable families, which is the main objective of performing this type of ritual in the first place.

In line with UNDP’s SDG # 2 “Zero Hunger” which calls for ending hunger and ensuring access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round by 2030” and “ending all forms of malnutrition”, FRD launches its annual “Qurbani Project” which aims at providing meat portions to the most vulnerable families in GAZA, inclusive of needy families as well as Palestinian refugees living in  camps.

What is the current situation in GAZA?

GAZA is facing a multi-layered crisis.

within the context of a fragile and over 15 years of blockade and weakened economy, is critically affecting the livelihood and socio-economic conditions of the gazans population and -by default- the refugees’ as well.

The imposed blockade exacerbated the implications of the deepened fiscal and economic crisis, both horizontally and vertically. Horizontally, vulnerability is fast expanding to reach wider segments of the population; vertically, the depth and extent of vulnerability are intensified crossing 50% poverty and unemployment rates.

FRD will be supervising the slaughtering of donated Qurbans (sheep or cow) as well as the butchering, packaging, and distribution of meat portions to the poor families living in designated underprivileged areas during the first day of Adha Eid.

Each meat portion weighs 3 kg approximately. Prices differ depending on the slaughtered animal as shown in the below diagram:

The project will be implemented under FRD Relief sector and will be managed by a sub-committee composed of selected staff members from different departments and sectors.

Qurbani Prices for the years 2022 / 1440 are as follow:

Item

Unit Price (USD)

Cow Portion

$ 570

Imported Sheep

$ 440

Local Sheep

$ 340

it’s Saturday ! I hope you have some cool plans for the weekend.

SALAM Alikom Everyone,

it’s Saturday ! I hope you have some cool plans for the weekend.

More than half of population in Gaza Strip lives below poverty line, according to UN data.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are preparing to welcome the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan under the shadow of economic difficulties caused by the Israeli blockade . The unemployment rate in the Gaza Strip, with a population of nearly 2.1 million, has almost reached 50% due to the land, sea and air blockade imposed by Israel for 17years, according to UN data. The recent coronavirus outbreak has also caused to deteriorate the economic situation in the territory. More than half of the population in the Gaza Strip currently lives below the poverty line. Despite all these difficulties, the Palestinians are keen to go to the markets for shopping in preparation for the holy month.

As we used to do every month of this year to launch an initiative to provide food baskets to the families most in need during the month of Ramadan, today we have decided to return this initiative because it has contributed so much to helping and meeting the basic needs of many families during the month of Ramadan. Over the past years, we've provided food supplies to hundreds of families, and that's relieving people to provide food.

We invite you to support this initiative this year as well to reach the goal, and we will follow with you updates as usual, thank you all for your generous and lasting support to you with all respect and appreciation.

RAMDAN FOOD PROGRAM IN GAZA 2022

SALAM ALIKOM,

DEAR Friend and Supporter.

Because of the updates and the inability of the launchgood platform to send donations to Gaza, this year we decided to launch the campaign on another platform.
Ramadan Food Program  was a successful humanitarian project every year that contributed to feeding hundreds of Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip.
This year, we decided to renew the project and receive your contribution to feed more this year.

Our world is beautiful, masha’Allah. It is full of abundance and has enough food for everybody to eat and be strong and healthy. Despite this, over 821 million people do not have enough food to eat. Millions, including babies and children, go to bed without anything to eat, affecting their health, growth and future life.

A Palestinian Student from Gaza Strip

SALAM ALIKOM everyone;

I hope everything comes up roses with you. This is me, SAAD M. S. ABUSHARBAIN. I am a Palestinian student from Gaza Strip. Yet, I travelled to Istanbul in February 2020 to continue my master study in Anglo-American Literature and Creative Writing Program. For sure, travelling teaches me many valuable lessons that I did not find in the books. However, my life in Istanbul was and still replete with ups and downs. I arrived in Istanbul 2 weeks late for my study because it was not an easy mission for me to travel from Palestine to Istanbul. You know, life is extremely hard in Palestine and specifically in Gaza Strip, the place where I live. It took one month from me to only get my student visa and to see my name in the travelers' list. Gaza Strip is a place full of tensions and wars. Besides, its economic situation is very fragile.

Before I leave Palestine, I got an acceptance from Istanbul Aydin University to start my MA. study there. Also, I sent them 1500$ as a first installment for my study. Unfortunately, when I arrived Istanbul, they told me that you were late two weeks and you could not start your study. At that time, I was very sad because I felt as if I am lost. I did not know what shall I do. However, I said to myself that I am here for a reason. I have a target that I must achieve. I did not leave my family alone in Gaza Strip to waste my time in Istanbul. Therefore, I did not leave a single stone unturned. And luckily, I discovered that Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil university was still registering students in the master programs. But, I did not have much time because it was the last day for registration. The international office at Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil university told me that you have only 5 hours before completing the registration. Also, they told me that you will study a master degree of Anglo-American Literature and Creative Writing Program but without thesis because the registration for students with thesis has done. The international office promised me once I finish two semesters with a high score, I can shift my program to a thesis one. Therefore, I was a little bit elated at that time because I will study and seize my time. Yet, the travelling journey from Palestine to Istanbul costs me very much. Moreover, Istanbul Aydin University did not give me back my tuitions which is 1500$. I became between the deep blue sea and the rock because I want to study but I have to pay new tuitions for Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil University. Besides, I could not call my father because I know his severe economic situation; specially because my 2 brothers and sister study in Palestinian universities in Gaza. As a result, I called one of my friends, and I explained the situation for him with eyes full of tears. Fortunately, he helped me immediately and sent me 2000$ as a new payment for starting studying MA. in Anglo-American Literature and Creative Writing Program at Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil University. I managed to study that semester which was my first semester at the university. I studied very hard, and I was sleeping only 5 hours per day. Luckily, I got 4 out of 4 at my first semester.

Then, I started studying my second semester which was a little bit easier for me because I did not face those troubles and obstacles which were in the first one. My father sent me the second payment for the university which was 2050$. However, I was sad when I knew that he sent me the last money he has. My family believes in the power of education. Therefore, my father always motivates me to keep moving forward and to keep studying. However, tuitions were a basic problem for me at each stage. I studied 5 subjects in the second semester, and I studied harder than the first one because I need a high score in order to shift my program to a thesis one. Fortunately, I also got 4 out of 4 in the second semester. This means that I got 100% in the first year of my MA. study. This for sure enables me to shift my program to a thesis one because I was the only student who got this average.

After that, I started writing my thesis which is on Forms and Functions of Metafiction in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain in 1885. My thesis style was excellent and my supervisor was very glad. Since February 2020 till now, I learnt many educational and life lessons.

My educational journey in Istanbul was difficult but very useful at the same time.

I write my story right now for you to tell you that I have achieved the first dream of my life which is getting the MA. in Anglo-American Literature and Creative Writing Program with 100%. Also, I look forward to studying my Ph.D. in Istanbul at the same university. Yet, I did not have any money to fulfill this dream. I did not have anything except my energy and a strong determination. However, energy alone is not enough to start studying the Ph.D. I write my story to tell you that I need your hand to accomplish my dream. Your donation can help me to get the Ph.D. and it will enable me to help my country when I come back Palestine. I chose this major not only because I am in love with English literature but because there is a sever lack in the number of instructors who teach English literature in Gaza. My Ph.D. tuitions is 9500$ and I need another 9500$ as expenses for 3 years because there is no student who can get the Ph.D. before 3 years.

Therefore, I need your help to make my dream come true. For my Ph.D. thesis, I would like to research on " Imagining Shakespeare- Inspired World: the importance of the bard." Or " The importance of human philosophy of literature." I am sure that the knowledge I shall receive in the Ph.D. study in English literature will be able to be applied in the future in order to become professional. I can help people and teams to develop their own potential, to overcome obstacles and to achieve their goals. While working in the public sector, we all strive for positive changes in our society. I am sure all changes we want in the educational system have to start with ourselves. I shall develop national programs, which could help to adjust long-term relations among cultures and continents.

Concerning my personality, I believe I am very responsible individual who loves to learn new things in life and to seek new experiences. I enjoy observing the people around me and meeting others with understanding and respect. Making friends is one of my greatest abilities. I have a passion for photography, and I enjoy browsing photo exhibitions even more than taking photos for myself. Also, I kike reading English literature. Moreover, I regularly attend performances of the Russian theatre, such as The European Theatre of Drama and others.

My interest of literature was gradually shaped throughout my life by different ways in which I have experienced the skills of English language: as a learner, a translator, and a trainer of English. However, it was the times spent studying in Palestine that made me fully understand that language can be a means of conveying much more than just our thoughts. In fact, it also carries all the information about our background, education, beliefs, prejudices, and generally reflects the way we categorize the world around us. I think that reading and writing different genres go together perfectly, and the success of the latter is entwined with the scope of the former. This is the main reason I wish to study my Ph.D. in English literature. I have always been told that I have an extensive imagination and writing allows me to channel it into creating unrestricted, fictional worlds. Literature, as a subject, has always seemed to show me paths and authors that I had never considered before, such as Ian McEwan  at A Level, and John Steinbeck prior to that. Indeed, I have been fascinated by the English language and literature. While young, I would either be writing, reading, or telling stories and ever since then, I have read a wide variety of both fiction and non-fiction texts from various genres and eras.

Finally, I do thank you for your time and consideration. Your donation will enable me to study the Ph.D. in English literature. I have taught that sharing is caring and hand in hand, we can achieve the best. The Ph.D. tuitions is 9500$ in Istanbul, and the expenses for three years study will be at least 9500$. So, your donation is indeed important for me. Highly appreciated.
