In this blessed last days of Ramadan, send food packages to the Rohingya to bring them joy on the day of Eid

Send food packages to Rohingya Muslims—the most persecuted people in the world

Giving food to the hungry is one of the greatest acts of charity and there is nobody more deserving than our Rohingya Muslim brothers and sisters. This Ramadan, send food to the Rohingyas and multiply your blessing.

What's in the food packages?

  • Rice crisps (puffed/"muri" and flattened/"chira)
  • Dates
  • Peanuts
  • Milk (powdered or condensed)
  • Jaggery (palm sugar/"gur")
  • Tang (powdered fruit drink mix)
  • Chickpeas
  • Potatoes, onion, and garlic
  • Cooking oil

Every food package contains enough food for 150 meals to serve a family of five members for the remaining days of Ramadan through to Eid and beyond.

A beautiful reminder

Allah SWT tells us about the excellence of feeding the hungry
in Surah Al-Insan [76:8-12].

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who is Rohingya Association of Canada (RAC)?

RAC is a not-for-profit organization run by a few of the fortunate Rohingya Muslims who fled the persecution and are currently living in Canada.

Why should I donate to Rohingya Association of Canada (RAC)?

RAC is in a unique position to maximize the effect of your donation by sending 100% of you donations to the refugees. We are volunteering our time to this project. Only 7% of your donation (7 cents per dollar) will be used to cover the transportation and delivery cost of the food packages.

Who are the Rohingyas?

Rohingyas are indigenous people of Arakan (Rakhaine state) from the south-western part of Myanmar (Burma). They have been driven out from their homeland by a genocidal army. They are stateless, that is, they don't have legal rights to live in any place in the entire world! Their citizenship has been taken away from them by the Myanmar government. In the face of indiscriminate killing, burning, rape, and torture, they fled to neighboring Bangladesh where they are staying in camps for months and years with no end in sight.

Why send food to the Rohingyas?

Even In the face of unbearable suffering, the Rohingyas have strong faith in Allah. Most of them are practicing Muslims. It is the responsibility of Muslims around the world to bring a little bit of ease in their suffering. Rohingyas are facing chronic food shortages. In this blessed month of Ramadan, let's remind ourselves of the pain of hunger and share some of the blessings that Allah SWT has given us with these persecuted, widowed, and orphaned Rohingyas.

Why are these items chosen for the food package?

These items were chosen because most of them are ready-to-eat or doesn't require cooking. Rohingyas lack access to cooking equipment and fuel. These food items are non-perishable and provides good nutrition.

Final hours of the Food for Rohingya campaign: Bold accomplishments, challenges, and other updates

Peace be upon you.

Fleeting are the days of Rahma (Mercy), Barakah (Divine Blessings), and Maghfirah (Forgiveness). They are the spirit of Ramadan. Our campaign, inspired by the spirit of Ramadan, is also coming to an end in less than 24 hours.

Earlier last week, we accomplished something exceptional. We distributed food packages in a certain refugee camp who otherwise don't get much donation. Here are the highlights:

Food package distributed: 62
Total cost: $770

Here's what's even more amazing. Your donation is currently reaching some Rohingyas in their own habitat!  (Shhh...)

Families receiving support: 213
Total distribution: $3000.

These families will be able to buy something for Eid through your donation.

Finally, our volunteers have been on standby due to heavy rainfall, waiting to distribute 1000 Eid food packages. As soon as the weather permits, we will distribute the food and provide you additional details.

Keep the Rohingyas in your thoughts and prayers as they face the monsoon rain.

Send food to Rohingya refugees. Use your Zakat and Sadaqah to bring happiness to them through iftar meals and to have better food on Eid day. Let Rohingya Muslims know that there are people in this world like you who care: http://www.LaunchGood.com/iftar4rohingya

Greetings from Rohingya iftar recipients. You put a smile on many faces. :)

Dear Friends,

With your support, we distributed iftar packages (bags/sacs) to 160 families

We were able to purchase items in bulk and negotiate wholesale pricing. This enabled us to make more packages than we anticipated. We also put many more items in each package. Our vendor covered the delivery charges. So, other than the cost of food supplies, we only had to pay for administration and labour. Even people who worked hard to pack and distribute charged less than the usual rate. (We promised to make it up to them next time.)

Here's a quick breakdown of the distribution activity so far (for donations received up till about May 27):

  • Cost of food items purchased: $2460
  • Money spent on administration and labour: $40
(Figures are approximate due to foreign currency exchange rate.)

An earnest request
Everyone knows someone who is aware of the desperate situation of Rohingya refugees. Please share the Iftar 4 Rohingya campaign with them. We are delivering food for as many as 6 meals per donated dollar! Share our campaign on Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and by email.

Just a short message like the one below is all we are requesting. You can cut & paste it easily:

Send iftar to Rohingya Muslims. Let them know that there are people in this world like you who care: http://www.LaunchGood.com/iftar4rohingya

Zakat
Muslims give 2.5% of their zakatable wealth to the poor, mostly during Ramadan. Not many people on this planet are as deserving as the Rohingya refugees. They have lost everything: family, wealth, dignity...the list is long. Everyone has specific places where they donate every year. This year we are requesting you to at least give part of your zakat to help the Rohingyas.

Our Iftar campaign is eligible for zakat, and so is our affordable cooking project for the Rohingyas. Single mothers, elderly, and families with disabled adults starve because they don't have the means to collect firewood needed to cook their food. Buy them a gas stove with your zakat and save them from starvation.

Be Blessed,

Rohingya Association of Canada

Give with peace of mind
