What is Project Feed?

The short answer: a monthly gathering of activists and friends who pack and distribute hundreds of brown bag lunches to the homeless on the streets of San Francisco. In just a few short hours, a couple of dozen volunteers go from shopping for supplies to packing meals at the Islamic Society of San Francisco, and then personally distributing them to local individuals in need.

How did this all come about?

Nearly seven years ago, a group of friends came together during Ramadan, perplexed by our focus on feeding ourselves rather than feeding those most in need. Project Feed was born overnight, when just three people made over 100 lunches to distribute in the spirit of living out Ramadan's true lessons.

What are we working on now?

In ordinary months, we pack and distribute anywhere from 300 to 500 meals, and sometimes are even able to include additional items like toothbrushes or socks. Our anniversary event in Ramadan is always our largest event of the year, and we aim to pack and distribute at least 2,000 meals.
