Tayba Foundation provides Islamic education to Muslims in U.S. prisons. 90% of our students are converts to Islam and the vast majority accepted Islam while in prison.

Students who benefit from Tayba's Islamic curriculum, which includes courses on character reform, transform their lives in amazing ways (which has even been recognized by local authorities). Several have become religious leaders in their prisons and in free society upon release. Many more are able to use their knowledge to call others to Allah.

The prison system does not provide adequate (often any) treatment for existing addictions, mental health problems, and poor social skills. This means that many prisoners continue to struggle with these problems when they are released into free society.

By law, released prisoners are required to go back to the neighborhood they lived in prior to incarceration. This means that instead of distancing themselves from their past lives, they're often thrust back into the same environment. This means that many well-intentioned ex-prisoners fall back into their old habits and are re-imprisoned (see the video above for a real-life example of this).

We're not reinventing the wheel. We've partnered up with an organization that has a track record of creating real change to offer courses on the following topics:

The estimated cost of providing a mentor to detect red flags from students and reach out to them to assess their needs, enrolment and course materials, coaching throughout the course, and follow-up where needed is $100/student. We estimate 500 students from our student body of 1,800 would be interested in these courses, so we need to raise $50,000 to meet student need this year.

Tayba Foundation staff have 15 years of experience in serving Muslim inmates. We know the challenges our students face and we know how to tailor our services to them in a way that suits their needs. Our student body has nearly doubled since we first started the organization and we served 1800 students in 2017.

​All of Tayba's students are located in the United States. Yet, despite being perhaps the most disadvantaged part of the Muslim American community, they are often completely ignored by their brothers and sisters in faith. There are possibly hundreds of thousands of Muslims behind bars. Give them the help that they deserve.
