This Ramadan, be the reason hundreds of women & children have a safe haven to turn to when fleeing abuse, experiencing homelessness or forced resettlement.
Why is it that 30% of women in Edmonton shelters are Muslim, while Muslim women only make up less than 1% of the general Edmonton population?
Why is it that 70% of shelter residents in Scarborough are Muslim women? We envision a society with no need for any kind of shelter because women will be free from abuse but until that's possible, it is not acceptable that these women do not have access to a place of safety that understands their culture and religion.
At Nisa Homes, we believe that everyone has a right to safety and shelter. Muslim women fleeing abuse or experiencing homelessness face immense obstacles when seeking help. Nisa Homes aims to make the process a little easier by providing a holistic spectrum of services to ensure women move on to become independent and self-sufficient:

Since we have started fundraising prior to Ramadan and are working on some partnerships to make this possible, we have reduced our overall goal of $300,000 (the cost of both homes for a year) to $150,000.
It costs women their lives. Let's do something about it.

Amina and her children are safe now
Assalamu alaykum dear supporters,
Firstly, we wanted to thank you for being at the forefront of supporting our campaign and recognizing the need for a safe, culturally and religiously sensitive, long-term shelter for women and children.
We wanted to share a story from one of our other homes to show just how impactful this project is.
"Before coming to Nisa Homes, I had been to three different shelters. I experienced everything from Islamophobia, guilt, shame and death threats.
At the first shelter I was asked "why did you leave, doesn't your religion say your husband can do that...", I felt judged and stereotyped due to my religion. We then went to an emergency shelter but I couldn't leave my children alone for a second because drugs and alcohol was everywhere.
At the last shelter, my husband started sending us death threats, leaving me terrified to go outside. The shelter connected me to Nisa Homes and a door to a new beginning opened for us.
I want to thank the Donors of Nisa Homes who made such a project possible. Alhumdulillah, I have my own home, a career in my own field, and my children are happier and healthier than ever before."
