Help us empower & support families & individuals to access necessary resources & services, raise awareness & develop wellness programs, & build community.

Who is MCL?

The Mission of Muslim Community Link (MCL) is to foster positive interactions and advance community integration by providing quality educational, wellness and referral services for all members, inclusive of the most marginalized within the Muslim Community.

Our Vision is of community in which all members are receiving necessary support, have a sense of belonging, and have achieved or are empowered to achieve physical, mental, and social wellness.

Our Values of compassion, growth, and justice guide MCL’s service to the community.

We're the organization that brings you Black Seed Farmers Market on a weekly basis, and continues to connect community members of diverse backgrounds with each other, as well as with local farmers, some of whom are recent immigrants and/or refugees in order to foster wellness, belonging, and a supportive local economy around healthy food. The market empowers community members to take their health into their own hands through access to healthier food choices.

Please help us now, as we need to strengthen a very crucial aspect of community support: Referral & Support Services.

Why Do We Need You?

Your donations will enable us to hire full-time staff for our Referral & Support Services so that we can sustainably help the marginalized immigrant & Muslim community!

To date we have 1 contractor, & 2 part-time staff (one of whom is a youth employee!). Yes, last summer we employed 14 youth, but those were just for summer jobs at the Black Seed Farmers Market. What we really need now is your support to enable us to sustain year-round full-time staffing. Our executive director is paid at $15/hr for just 10 hours a week. She does well over 40 hours, yet is paid for only a fraction of that. In order to continue helping our community in a financially stable way, we need to be able to at least pay our executive director and just one other individual full-time hours for running our Referral & Support Services.

What Are You Supporting?

Our Executive Director's work and volunteers' work goes towards:

  • supporting parents & children who are escaping domestic violence to get into shelters,
  • supporting parents & children in need of emergency housing assistance and/or homeless shelter due to financial struggles,
  • advocacy for parents, families, & individuals in the court system
  • providing moving assistance for families transitioning into or out shelter
  • culturally responsive support work for immigrants, refugees, asylees, single-parents, survivors of domestic violence, & families and individuals who have experienced trauma
  • providing financial assistance or referrals for financial assistance or programs offered by foundations or local, state, & federal government,
  • youth coordination,
  • and of course managing our Community Building Programs like the Black Seed Farmers Market and the Parent-Child Playgroup,
  • and so much more.

This is what your money is going to support! Getting families into homes & situations they can afford so that they can lead healthy, safe, & financially sustainable lives.

What our executive director and volunteer staff do takes time, effort, & expertise. With over 25+ years of experience, our staff is well equipped to do this work - but they cannot continue to do this work sustainably with no pay. They all have homes, mouths, and lives to pay for as well. Please support our staff as they support the community

Sister Mukhtiar, a single-mom, who after over two years of bouncing from domestic violence shelters to friends' homes, is pictured here signing a lease for her own subsidized apartment for her and her daughter. MCL supported Mukhtiar and her daughter through the shelter & court system throughout the 2 years, and advocated for them & supported them in getting into subsidized housing.

Throughout her time in and out of shelter with her daughter, Sister Mukhtiar was without work. Before getting her own apartment, MCL was able to help her find employment, which she still holds today, over a year later.

Sister Mukhtiar is just one of many women and families who we've supported over the life of MCL. Please enable us to help more families!

What Services are Families Receiving?

Your donations will fund the hard work and time that it takes to get families, children, & individuals resources like:
  • Emergency moving assistance including volunteer movers & U-Haul moving truck
  • Healthy food access via Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits
  • Heated & lighted homes via Home Energy Assistance
  • Safe, secure, & financially sustainable homes via domestic violence shelters
  • Safe, secure, & financially sustainable homes via emergency homeless shelters
  • Safe, secure, & financially sustainable homes via low-income subsidized housing
  • Community Building Programs like our Black Seed Farmers Market & Parent-Child Playgroup. A large number of the youth, children, and families we work with within both of these programs have received support through our Referral & Support Services. This "wrap-around" model helps us to build a strong resilient community for members.
  • Peer advocacy in the courts, public assistance offices, shelters, etc.
  • One-on-one support meetings with staff
