Help fulfill the “Wishes” of low-income and disabled families living around Singapore

Make their Wishes Come True

"The key to richness is charity, while the key to poverty is stinginess"

For the second year running, our Ramadhan Give-Back Project, #KindnessIsMagic, hopes to fulfill the “wishlist(s)” of needy families, living in 1- room rental apartments around Singapore. These families lack basic necessities such as rice (a Singaporean’s staple), gas for cooking, money to fund their children’s education, or even their own medical bills.

Their humble and basic "wishes":

Our hearts ached at their circumstances, and the scarcity of all they had. Yet they would only ask us for simple things; a replacement for their bedbug infested beds, broken wardrobes and fans. Some families are also in need of money for food to fill their empty stomachs, or a bit of assistance in funding dialysis bills.

Help us to fulfill the “wishes” of almost 30 households this year. Your kind donations will definitely ease their difficult lives.

Our team has visited some of the homes of these needy families. This year’s "wishes" are (list is non-exhaustive):

  • Medical bills
  • Single bed frames
  • Mattresses
  • Bed sheets
  • Installation of wheelchair ramps
  • Fans
  • Lights
  • Groceries
  • Toiletries
  • Clothes
  • Chairs
  • Iron
  • Washing Machines
  • Curtains
  • Cash support

On top of fulfilling these wishes, we would like to give each home a "special pack" of basic household and personal essentials, as well as yummy biscuits to welcome guests this Eid :)

  • Case Studies of Beneficiaries Mentioned in Our Video:

Salim’s Family

Salim (78 years old), Mariam (73 years old) and Aeishah (60 years old) are siblings staying together in an old flat. Salim is unable to work as he went through surgery and rigorous chemotherapy for his 3rd stage thyroid cancer. Despite being the only one married among them, unfortunately none of Salim's four children visit him anymore. Mariam, in turn, risks going blind and has endured multiple surgeries to fight to keep her eyesight, with another surgery scheduled this year.

These piling medical bills are stacked against Aeishah, 73, who is the sole breadwinner - despite earning only S$30 a day working at a nearby market. Having heard their story, and realizing Aeishah's tenacity and responsibility in keeping the trio afloat, moved us tremendously. Living below the poverty line, we pray that all 3 siblings can benefit from your support to live a little more comfortably this year.

Isa’s Family

Isa, the breadwinner and father of the family, lives with type 1 diabetes before having had a stroke that left him unable to work for 3 months. His family of 5 includes his 3 daughters, Aishah (9 years old), Fatimah (6 years old) and baby Azizah (6 months old). Besides needing money for medical bills, the family is unable to even afford gas for cooking at home.

Presently, Isa works as a cab driver. His work gets disrupted daily as he has to send home food purchased with the earnings he made the same morning, as they cannot afford the cost of gas for cooking at home. This interruption from work in turn affects his daily income, which is barely enough to make ends meet.

Hasnah’s Family

Hasnah has been wheelchair-bound since December 2017 due to a hip fracture. She also suffers from long-term kidney problems and goes through dialysis 3 times a week, costing her more than S$1,300 monthly. Due to her condition, her husband has since become her full-time caretaker, leaving the couple helplessly dependent on charity to get by.

Thank You for Making #KindnessIsMagic Possible!!!

Alwehdah Youth would like to convey our most heartfelt gratitude for your kind donation to our Ramadhan Give-Back Project #KindnessIsMagic.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to help our beneficiaries of needy families in Singapore replace broken appliances and furniture in their homes as well as fund their hospital bills and children's education. Alhamdulillah! :)

You may view a photo album of #KindnessIsMagic conducted on 2nd June 2018 here on our Facebook page. With the help of our fellow volunteers, our beneficiaries received their wish-listed needs as well as Eid packets of basic household essentials, rice and yummy biscuits to welcome their guests this Eid. They were also invited to an iftar session with us at the Alwehdah Clubhouse.

We hope to run more charity drives like these in the future insyaAllah and we truly appreciate all the love and support received from you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you again for contributing to the magic!

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish you the last few days of Ramadhan filled with His barakah as well as an advanced Eid Mubarak!

Best wishes,

Alwehdah Youth
