You also helped to provide alternative fuel support, solar energy panels, lighting and shelter upgrades and assistance in livelihood projects.

A Forgotten People

Thousands of people across Myanmar (also known as Burma), are displaced, unable to return to their homes. 

Over 500,000 people have sought shelter in Bangladesh since violence erupted in Myanmar in late August 2017, according to the United Nations.

And continued tensions keep many in danger and in need of help. That exacerbates other problems, such as food insecurity: According to the World Food Program, more than 162,000 people are facing food insecurity and another 78,000 people are in need of immediate food assistance.

Why it Matters

Moments like these demonstrate our willingness to help others in their time of need.  While there is no amount of money that ever make what happened to go away, they need our support. You will always have a special place in their prayers for your support in their time of need and their collective gratitude for your support will always have you remembered.  

How You Can Help

Every year the Islamic Center at NYU works with Islamic Relief to raise awareness and contribution to a humanitarian crisis. This year the Myanmar Crisis mine which threatens the lives of so many, and has already taken the lives of too many requires our immediate attention. By donating directly to our Launch Good campaign, you are part of a larger effort to alleviate the pain and suffering brought on by the violence and killing in the region.

Our greatness lies in our ability to feel empathy for one another, even continents away.

Give whatever you can.
