Donate to Purchase Canned Food for the Hungry: In Memory of the #ChapelHillShooting Victims ($1 = 1 Meal)

Our Three Winners

On February 10, 2015, Deah Barakat (23), his wife Yusor Abu-Salha (21) and her sister Razan Abu-Salha (19), were found shot and killed, execution style, in their apartment in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Their loss was devastating not only to their local community but to the nation, as these three American Muslim activists continuously gave selflessly to their community and were exemplar models. Whether it be the homeless community of Durham or Syrian refugees, these three leaders were constantly coordinating ways to help and serve others.

Deah's last post on Facebook showed him feeding the homeless in North Carolina. To honor and continue their legacy of community service, a collective of American Muslim activists and groups launched FeedTheirLegacy: a nationwide canned food drive for the hungry. We aim to #FeedTheirLegacy by feeding our hungry neighbors. Our national goal is to collect 100,000 cans by Sunday, March 29th.

Lets #FeedTheirLegacy by Feeding Our Neighbors

Over 280 mosques, churches, student groups and other organizations have already signed up nationwide! How AMAZING is that?

You too can be a part of this incredible initiative and campaign! Every dollar you donate will enable us to purchase at least one meal for the needy and also help us cover FeedTheirLegacy campaign expenses (e.g., website, flyers for each food drive, etc). Our goal is to collect 20,000 cans (meals) through this LaunchGood page alone because proceeds will directly go to help food banks provide meals to the needy.

Whichever states collect the most cans by March 29th will win a portion of the cans purchased with yours donations; those cans will be distributed among food pantries in the winning state. The other portion of the cans will go to whichever single food drives in the United States collects the most cans by March 29th; those cans will be given to the food pantry that the winning food drive was collecting cans for. This winning food drive may or may not be in the winning state. If we raise enough money, our hope is that we can have prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place states and food drives that collect the most cans.

Now let the race begin! :)

24 Hours Left - We're So Close!

Assalammu Alaykum Everyone,

Alhamdulillah, thank you all for the support!

As of 7 PM Eastern Time yesterday, over 280 canned food drives in 33 states have successfully raised 95,102 cans. Our LaunchGood campaign is currently at 75% ($14,792) and our goal is to raise $20,000 for 20,000 more cans

In Honor Of Our Three Winners

FeedTheirLegacy's cofounder Tarek El-Messidi discussed how important this campaign is: "While we mourn the loss of three young and extraordinary American Muslims, and the brutal way they were killed, the Quran instructs us to respond to evil with good. With extremists like ISIS dominating headlines daily, we want America to see that it's Muslims like Deah, Yusor and Razan who truly represent us. They were killed by a neighbor, but we'll respond by feeding our neighbors across America. By doing so, we feed their legacy of serving others."

Imagine how beautiful it will be across America if we can all get positive media coverage of Muslims donating thousands of cans to feed the needy, to counter all the negative media we're getting. Many AMAZING media stories have resulted from this campaign and here is a link to a great TV news footage that we got in Florida: Bit.ly/TampaFTL

Saving The Salvation Army of Wake County

Yesterday, WNCN Sean Maroney reported that The Salvation Army of Wake County suspended its food assistance program indefinitely after essentially running out of supplies. This would affect dozens of families in the Raleigh area. You can watch the news clip by visiting this link: Bit.ly/SalvationArmyWC

This is the whole mission of Feed Their Legacy. We will not let the program be suspended, especially not in the backyard of Our Three Winners. On behalf of the #ChapelHillShooting victims and Muslims across America, Feed Their Legacy has pledged to give at least 5,000 canned goods and non-perishable items to The Salvation Army of Wake County. This is a wonderful opportunity to help those in need! We are only $5000 away and if 50 people give $100, we can hit our goal and together we can help save this food pantry from ending their operations.

Lastly, more hungry people will be fed in the winning states and cities. The 1st place state will get a prize of 3,000 more cans (meals), donated to their local food pantries. The 1st place food drive will get 3,000 cans given to their beneficiary food pantry. 2nd place will get 2,000 cans, and so on. If we raise more money online, we can probably even do 4th and 5th place prizes!

Last Push!

Let's finish the last day of the campaign STRONG. Let's keep on rolling our sleeves and feed our hungry neighbors! Please, please share this link: FeedTheirLegacy.com/Give

We sincerely appreciate your support. May God bless you for you generous donation, may God accept from all of us and may God make this a means of pleasing Him and His Messenger, peace be upon him.

Sincerely,

FeedTheirLegacy Team
