Let us help her tell the important stories -- as a qualified journalist

A remarkable young woman…

I and my Bareeq Center team met with Anwaar, a young woman who fled Syria with her siblings, were touched by her story and determination to success. I am asking you to help us raise funds towards her obtaining a degree in Journalism --  she wants to tell the world the stories that need to be told.

The story that touched our hearts

Anwaar is a 20 year old young woman from Syria , who lost her father in the civil war when she was 16, and her mother to illness the following year. A year ago her elder brother was killed along with his daughter in a rocket strike in Aleppo. In the course of the unrelenting war, she lost her home, her friends, her family, and her safety. It was then that she decided to leave Syria along with her 4 siblings and cross into Jordan as a refugee.

Anwaar had to face the responsibility of taking care of herself and siblings in a foreign land: that included her 9 year old sister, who has congenital heart defect (holes in her heart), and her 17 year old epileptic brother who needs care and can't go to school.

Between Hope and Reality

Anwaar’s dream is to one day become a journalist and bring to light the stories that are not being told. She soon found a group that helped her register in the journalism degree program at Yarmouk University in Jordan. Excited, and filled with determination, she finished her first semester with high grades. Sadly, Anwaar’s life has not been an easy one and the group that was sponsoring her was no longer able to continue to support her, so she had to quit.

To try to make ends meet, whenever there is an opportunity, she writes articles to local Jordanian newspapers as a freelance journalist.

I want to see Anwaar’s dream come true and I need your help. Her tuition cost per year is $10,000 USD (approx JOD 6,700) including transportation and books. I am hopeful about seeing the day where I can read a news article and see Anwaar’s name in the author’s box.

How You Can Help

If you are as impressed with Anwaar's determination to succeed as me, and want to make an impact in her life and her siblings that depend on her, please help by donating to her scholarship fund and also sharing her story.
