The University of Houston’s Muslim Students Association is the primary religious student organization on campus for Muslims. It provides religious and social programming to strengthen the religious identities of Muslims as well as teaching non-Muslims the peaceful ways of Islam for greater understanding. By forming a common link to a community of faith, MSA aims to not only provide comfort and support to Muslims students, but also to spread awareness about the beauty of Islam. Here are just some of the great events and services we provide to the student body:

AMP

The Ansar-Muhajireen Project (AMP) is a mentorship program designed to develop college underclassmen into stronger versions of themselves. AMP pairs underclassmen students with an upperclassmen mentor who is meant to guide students academically, mentally, and even spiritually throughout the semester. The program also offers workshops that teach students essential leadership skills such as time management, organization, and responsibility.

Da'wah Table​

Da'wah Table provides a resource for students on campus to learn more about Islam through conversation and exposure to Muslims. It has transformed negative impressions of Islam on campus into positive ones, and it continues to bring the community closer together by bridging individuals from seemingly different backgrounds. Through Da'wah Table, one is provided with the chance to explore their own faith while also learning about other beliefs and connecting with those who hold them.

Education

UH MSA is committed to providing many opportunities for Muslim students to learn more about their religion, and educate the UH community about Islam. To that end, MSA offers weekly halaqahs free of charge with renowned teachers, such as Ammar Al-Shukry from Al-Maghrib or Mufti Wasim Khan; large panels that discuss topics such as sexual assault awareness and Black history from an Islamic perspective; and interfaith events to change the campus narrative around Islam and Muslims.   

Salah Arrangements

UH MSA organizes multiple spaces for Muslim students to pray undisturbed, such as in the library or AD Bruce Religion Center. MSA also organizes Jumuah and second Jumuah every Friday, with a new speaker every week, to ensure that students are given every opportunity to fulfill their spiritual needs.

MSA Showdown

MSA Showdown is an annual competition that takes place between college MSAs across Texas. It’s a wonderful way for Muslim students to meet new people and form lifelong connections, as well as develop their teamwork abilities. Showdown is also a place for anyone to show their talents! Whether it’s in sports, writing, the arts, or even just school spirit, there’s a place for everyone at this amazing event.
