The Crisis

On Mar​ch 23rd 2020, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez's office brought to Muslim Community Patrol & Services's attention that several senior citizen centers in Brooklyn were closing due to the coronavirus pandemic that hit America recently. These senior centers gradually received less meal deliveries - guests were sharing one meal between two people at one point - until the centers eventually closed due to the lockdown on New York City in accordance with the mandates and guidelines set forth for our collective wellbeing.

Within a few short weeks, the elderly who frequented these centers did not just lose a place for them to socialize and feel a sense of belonging - they lost their source of nourishment through daily cooked meals. Sadly, some of the elderly live alone at home and now, in addition to social isolation, they are struggling to eat on a daily basis as they are advised to not leave their homes. 

Our Campaign

In response to this crisis, we are fundraising for our initiative to prepare meals for senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals/families in New York City who are in need of hot meals every week for 2 months. No one deserves to go hungry, and anyone who can do something about it must do so. 

On March 27th 2020, we prepared and delivered 90 meals to senior citizens who frequently visited United Senior Citizens Center, Sunset Park, and other senior citizens in New York City who requested for meals. They were grateful for our service and volunteers, and we were honored to help them. 

Our Previous Program 

Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, MCPS prepared and distributed 150 hot meals for the homeless in Manhattan every Friday. Under the current circumstances, we can no longer gather our volunteers to prepare meals and then distribute the packed meals in the city as it would create a crowd of people. 

However, in the spirit of #NewYorkTough we will continue to prepare fresh and healthy meals every week. Following that, the meals will be delivered by trained volunteers to senior citizens and individuals with a weakened immune system who are now homebound and in dire need of meals and assistance.

​Our Promise

All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the proceeds from this campaign will be used fund and prepare meals. That’s right, every single dollar you give will go towards providing fresh and healthy meals for senior citizens and immunocompromised individuals/families who request them.

Our Partners

MCPS is collaborating with SMILE for Charity, Faith., The Muslim Network, and The Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC) who co-ordinate delivery volunteers for this initiative. All volunteers must declare if they had or have any symptoms, and they are required to deliver the meals while wearing protective equipment and follow social distancing guidelines carefully.
