Help us treating and saving lives of many newborn infants who need special health care in north of Syria

You can help us save newborn babies 👶🏼 in Syria by helping us purchase urgent ICU equipments.

Give the Gift to save the lives of newborn babies in Syria, and contribute to restoring the smile and hope to their families … Support now!

What is the purpose of this campaign?

With the tremendous work exerted by Al-Ikha'a Hospital, it still suffers a huge shortage of number of beds in the intensive care departments, together with a shortage in equipment and daily supplies and consumables which are necessary for the children and newborn care departments, like the artificial ventilation devices, Cardiac monitoring devices, and lab analytical devices.

This campaign aims at securing the needed amount to purchase a number of modern ICU devices for Al-Ikhaa Specialized Hospital, and help in treating and saving lives of many newborn infants who need special health care in north of Syria.

Why do newborn babies need our help?

More than four million people in north of Syria are facing the most adverse living and health conditions in light of the ceaseless conflict for more than nine years. Children, particularly the newborn and infants, are the most affected groups in these circumstances. Unfortunately, many newborn babies die as a result of the complex delivery cases conducted in hospitals that lack the required equipment and intensive care units. Hospitals also suffer from the shortage of support needed to secure the required life-saving means and equipment, as well as from the difficulty of transportation to specialized hospitals in Turkey near the Syrian border.

Serving 12,000 people a month

The services of Al-Ikha'a Specialized Hospital reach around 12,000 beneficiaries on monthly basis. In addition, more than 100 children per day are served in the pediatric and neonate departments in the emergency rooms and the clinics, along with the newborn infants, of normal and cesarean deliveries, benefiting from the Post-Natal Care services. The pediatric department comprises 25 admission beds in the infant ward, and an intensive care room for children with two ICU beds. The neonatal ward also includes 10 incubators distributed between the intermediate care and intensive care units.

About The Al-Ikha'a Hospital

Since we were founded in 2011 Syrian Expatriates Medical Association (SEMA) established and supported a number of maternity and pediatric hospitals. One of these hospitals is Al-Ikha'a Specialized Hospital in Atma area in north of Syria. This hospital is considered one of the most important obstetrics/gynecology and pediatric health facilities in northwest Syria as it provides medical services for around 50,000 people of both host communities and internally displaced people from different parts of northern Syria.

Thanks to your donations, our doctors were able to intervene in time and provide the necessary treatment for Tala. She is now in good health, awaiting clearance from the doctors to go home...  Thank you for your generosity.

Stand with Muhammad: A Newborn's Battle for Survival!

We extend our sincerest gratitude to all the compassionate donors who have generously contributed to our cause in the past. Your support has been invaluable in providing vital medical care and assistance to newborns babies in need across northern Syria.

Our appeal to you today weighs heavily on our hearts and leaves us confused as to what we will do in order to save the life of the newborn baby Muhammad.

Muhammad is only 6 days old and was born very prematurely, weighing only 1.2 kg. His mother suffered countless difficulties and pain during his birth and was eventually forced to give birth prematurely, which posed a threat to her life. Despite Muhammad’s young age, he was frail. For the sake of every soul, our doctors transferred Muhammad and his mother to the intensive care unit immediately and are awaiting your kindness now.

What can you do for Muhammad?

As Muhammad struggles to draw every breath, his family stands by his side, their hearts heavy with anxiety and fear. Not only do they face the emotional pain of watching their newborn struggle to survive, but they also face the heavy burden of medical expenses they cannot afford.

However, God's care and then your donations provided us with the possibility of offering intensive and immediate care, including two blood transfusions and two blood exchanges, along with respiratory support and therapeutic medications.

We are thrilled to announce Fatima's recovery and her discharge from the hospital in good health.

The Gift of Healing: Your Role in Baby Muhammad's Life!

After seven years of waiting, Muhammad was born with pneumonia... Your support inspires us to continue.

Muhammad was born in a very critical health condition. He was unable to breathe, a condition known as respiratory distress, and required intubation and transfer to the neonatal intensive care unit at one of SEMA's hospitals in northern Syria.

Our little one started a treatment journey for what turned out to be neonatal pneumonia, with an appropriate amount of antibiotics and training on natural breathing.

The little one showed an amazing ability to recover, and we began to introduce gradual nutrition until he fully recovered. His recovery was like a new birth, and we cannot describe his mother's joy at having him return healthy.

This great achievement would not have been possible without generous hands, and we do not know how we can thank in words a donor who saved a little child's life!

Thank you so much for your donation! Your kindness helps us save babies in the intensive care units.

We recently helped a baby who had a serious condition because they breathed in a substance called meconium before they were born. This can happen when babies are stressed and can be very dangerous because it makes it hard for them to breathe.

This baby turned a bluish-gray color and was breathing very fast, which showed us they needed urgent help. We used a machine to help them breathe better.

Your generosity gave this little one a chance at life!

In moments of despair that may overcome any mother on the verge of losing her newborn, we are there, just like the case of this woman who visited one of our hospitals in northern Syria with a history of calcification, previous cesarean sections, and fetal distress during birth, with delayed crying and blueness. The newborn required advanced medical care, despite the limited medical resources in the hospital and the absence of a vacancy for the infant. A nasogastric tube was inserted, and intravenous resuscitation was performed, relying on backup equipment, as there was no dedicated neonatal intensive care unit in this hospital. After four hours, the baby managed to breathe spontaneously, was weaned from the ventilator, placed in an incubator, and had a nasal cannula inserted, with close medical monitoring and requests for radiological images and tests.

On the fourth day, the baby developed seizures, which were promptly managed with anticonvulsant medications. During this period, the feeding volume was increased, while ensuring continued breastfeeding. On the 11th day, the newborn was discharged in a stable condition but continues to be monitored in our clinics.

You have created the life of this newborn and her family with your generosity and boundless kindness. Let's continue to support the lives of newborns every day. Support now:

Your Donations Always Made an Impactful Change: Act Now to save Abdul Karim life!

Your previous donations were able to save the lives of hundreds of newborn babies, gave hope to their families and made them live a wonderful life with each other, but the need still continues and your donation is still needed to treat cases like the case of the baby Abdul Karim.

Only hours after his birth and suffering from intrauterine growth restriction, the child, Abdul Karim, experienced severe respiratory distress that nearly claimed his life. He was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit at Al-Ikhaa Hospital.

Respiratory distress is a very serious medical condition that poses a significant threat to the lives of newborn babies. This risk is heightened in an area like northern Syria due to the lack of availability of basic healthcare services. Abdul Karim is currently in the intensive care unit, and his family hopes that you will intervene to save his life.

Due to the conditions of poverty and hunger in northern Syria, Abdul Karim's family is unable to bear the costs of his treatment. Your donation will have the greatest impact in helping Abdul Karim.

Abdul Karim is still holding his breath, but we have to help him.

We Are Making an Impact Together, How?

The looks of gratitude that we see in the eyes of the families whose children we are saving, thanks to your donations, are priceless. You are the true heroes for these underprivileged people in northern Syria.

In moments of despair and pain, a little boy named Faisal was born, in a heartbreaking moment for his parents, as they discovered that he was suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome. All of this was a real threat to the life of this innocent little boy.

That defining moment required urgent intervention from SEMA's doctors, as Faisal was placed on a ventilator. The sounds of medical equipment made his parents extremely worried that they might lose their child at any moment, but there was always hope.

Thanks to your donations, the doctors began administering treatment to the child, and we met with his mother to alleviate some of her suffering and sadness. At this point, Faisal’s mother broke down in tears. That moment was a true expression of her deep feelings and overwhelming concern for her son’s life.

After several days, the child began to improve, and the looks of gratitude that sparkled in his mother's eyes were unlike any language in the world. It is the language of love, motherhood, and deep gratitude to you and your donations that contributed to saving Faisal’s life.

Like Faisal, there are dozens of newborn babies who arrive daily at SEMA Hospitals and need your compassion and help. Donate now to save the life of an innocent child:

Your donations are still saving newborn babies’ lives!

Due to the conflict in northern Syria, the region is suffering greatly from a significant lack of healthcare. There are a limited number of hospitals and health centers that provide medical care for newborn babies, who are considered the most vulnerable group of all.

Baby Sidra arrived at one of SEMA hospitals suffering from repeated vomiting and severe pain. She was only two days old. After tests, it was found that she had severe gastrointestinal bleeding. She was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit, where doctors took the necessary measures to save the girl.

Our doctors were able to treat the child and relieve her of her pain, and this would not have been possible without your generous donations. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to save the lives of newborns in northern Syria.

Like Sidra, there are dozens of newborn babies arriving at SEMA hospitals, and your donation is the only one capable of saving them. Donate now to save a child's life:

Your donations saved newborn Idris, what about others?!

Thank you for your generous donations, which have allowed us to save dozens of newborn babies in northern Syria. Your support for these children has given them a chance for a better life and a brighter future, while also alleviating significant burdens on their families who are unable to afford their treatment costs due to the conditions of poverty and war in northern Syria.

One such newborn baby, Idris, arrived in critical condition at one of SEMA Hospital's, suffering from severe jaundice at just 8 days old. The doctors promptly admitted him to the intensive care unit due to the seriousness of his health condition.

Today, thanks to your compassionate contributions, Idris is steadily recovering, and soon he will be reunited with his family, looking forward to a better future. This remarkable transformation would not have been possible without your kindness toward this child.

However, has the suffering completely ceased? Unfortunately, no. Many more newborn babies continue to arrive at hospitals, desperately in need of your support to save their lives. Please consider donating now to help us make a difference in the life of another baby in need:

Thank you for being the angel of mercy who saves lives!

Newborn baby Mohammed is still alive thanks to God and thanks to you!

Since the moment baby Mohammed was born in northern Syria, he found himself in a battle for survival. He was born extremely premature at 24 weeks gestation, weighing 1,150 grams. His birth was risky under difficult living conditions surrounding him and his family from the beginning.

His family was unable to transfer him to a private hospital, and even his mother's pregnancy was not closely monitored. The possibility of losing the newborn was present at any moment, even after he was admitted to our intensive care unit. He suffered recurring episodes of respiratory distress, and the medical team made every possible effort to sustain the baby's life with close monitoring around the clock until their efforts finally succeeded.

Hours and heavy days passed for the parents, alternating between fear and hope over a period of 40 days before the joyful news came of their baby's improvement and graduation with a weight of 1,700 grams.

Our mission is not over yet! Our team continued to follow up on him after his graduation and provided the mother with optimal care methods. Our little one showed continuous growth response, gaining 30 grams every day!

It has been a dangerous journey between life and death, and you were the guardian angel for this little one, truly contributing to saving his life through your donations!

We thank you for your boundless generosity and hope that the triumph of Mohammed's life will inspire the rescue of more newborns struggling in the intensive care units... Donate now:

Now, as we enter the last ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, we invite you to continue donating to save these children.

The baby Izdihar was born with meconium inhalation syndrome, which is a very serious syndrome that threatens the life of any newborn baby, and we need your help in order to save her life by providing emergency medicines for the baby.

The conditions of poverty and hunger in northern Syria make the family of the child Izdihar unable to secure the medicines for the child, and your donation is the only one capable of that.

In these blessed days, we invite you to donate in order to save the lives of Izdihar and dozens of other children who arrive at SEMA hospitals in northern Syria. Donate now to save the life of a newborn child:

Transforming Tragedy into Triumph: Your Generosity Saves Babies!

A few days ago, Mrs. Tahani arrived at one of SEMA's hospitals, and she was about to give birth. The necessary tests were immediately performed by the doctors, and after a short period, the natural delivery was successful.

However, after moments of the mother's joy, it became clear that her child had severe respiratory distress. The joy did not last, as the child was admitted to the intensive care unit immediately, and the doctors began to provide the necessary treatment for him until he gradually began to recover.

Thanks to your donations, we were able to save this child even before his family was able to give him the appropriate name. He is now in good health, and this certainly would not have been possible without your donations.

Your donation now, of any amount, can save the life of a newborn baby in northern Syria. Do not hesitate to donate now and make a difference.

Your previous donations were the reason for the treatment of hundreds of newborns in northern Syria and gave hope to hundreds of families to live a peaceful life with their children... Thank you!

This little angel arrived at one of SEMA's hospitals, and he went through very difficult stages (dystocia - serious health complications - shortness of breath).

Our doctors intervened immediately, and the child was admitted to the intensive care room even before his family could give him a name. The child is now starting to improve and is in good health, and this certainly would not have been possible without your donations.

Your donations once again saved a small soul, but we cannot stand here as there are still many newborn babies fighting for survival. Your generosity is certainly able to save them. Donate now to save a small soul:

Miracle in Maternity: Triplets' Birth Made Possible by Your Generosity!

Dear Donors,

We are thrilled to share with you an incredible success story made possible by your generous support. Each month, SEMA hospitals in northern Syria receive dozens of delivery cases, ranging from routine to complex and emergency situations that require the mobilization of our dedicated doctors and a double effort to ensure the well-being of both the mother and her fetus. Your unwavering support enables us to provide efficient and effective services to these families in need.

This week, a remarkable event took place at the Maternity Hospital supported by SEMA. A pregnant woman expecting triplets visited our facility, seeking medical attention. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the attending gynecologist made a prompt decision to perform an immediate caesarean section to safeguard the health of both the mother and her children.

After thorough analysis and consultation with the pediatrician, the caesarean section was successfully performed, resulting in the joyous arrival of three healthy and beautiful children.

One mother, while her daughter was in the operating room, expressed her fears and concerns, only to find solace and reassurance in witnessing the tremendous care and attention you have made possible. She said, "I was very afraid for my daughter, but I was reassured after seeing your interest in her."

Indeed, this heartwarming outcome would not have been achievable without your invaluable donations. Your contributions have directly impacted the lives of these families, bringing hope, relief, and happiness during a critical moment.

We humbly request your continued support. Please consider making a donation, no matter the amount, to help us sustain our efforts in assisting more families like this one. Running Low on Life-Saving Medicine for Newborns in Syria!

Dear Supporter,

We want to update you on the situation in northern Syria where our newborn babies are suffering from respiratory distress syndrome, a leading cause of neonatal death. Premature twins, Hanan and Mahmoud, were born at just 31 weeks of gestation and are at high risk. Thanks to your generosity, we have been able to save the lives of many newborns since the beginning of Ramadan.

As we enter the last ten days of this holy month, we ask you to consider the importance of saving the life of an infant. Currently, our twin children are fighting for their lives and struggling to breathe with the help of "surfactant" medicine. This medicine is critical in treating respiratory distress and is listed as an essential treatment by the World Health Organization. However, our hospitals are running low on stocks, putting the lives of dozens of newborns in danger.

By supporting our campaign to provide life-saving medical support, you can spare these innocent children from unnecessary suffering and give them a chance at life. Hanan and Mahmoud have already faced numerous challenges, moving between hospitals until their mother found a vacancy to receive them. With your continued support, our intensive care units can expand and help more children in need.

We are grateful for your ongoing support and commitment to this humanitarian mission. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these precious newborns.

"Umm Jude's successful childbirth thanks to your support"

We wanted to share a heartwarming story with you about a woman named Umm Jude, who came to one of our hospitals in the midst of severe labor. After a seven-year wait, she was finally giving birth to her first child.

Unfortunately, her labor was difficult, and we made the decision to perform an emergency c-section to ensure the safety of both her and her baby.

Thanks to the quick action of our medical team, Umm Jude was able to welcome her newborn into the world, safe and sound. After the operation, she was transferred to a recovery ward to complete her treatment, and once both she and her child were deemed healthy, they were able to go home.

One of our nurses shared that Umm Jude was crying throughout her labor and even after the operation. When asked why, she said, "I didn't think I would ever see my child, but thanks to God and your efforts, I finally did. May God reward you."

This story is a powerful reminder of the impact your support has on the lives of young souls like Umm Jude and her newborn. Without your help, the outcome could have been very different. Let's continue to work together to help bring light into the lives of those in need:

Your donation to save newborn lives moves all humanity forward!

Reducing neonatal cot mortality is one of the five global Millennium Humanitarian Goals, and with your support, we do it every day!

How wonderful is it to save a newborn who is days or hours old from death? That's exactly the impact your donation does!

Although we rescue dozens of newborns every month in northern Syria, cases are still increasing constantly due to the poor living conditions for pregnant women and mothers, which makes the rate of premature births very high, especially during the winter season, when many newborns arrive with cold injuries.

Your donation now for the health of newborns may not take a single minute, but its impact is eternal in reviving a small soul clinging to life, so that we extend a helping hand to young newborns and give them the chance to live despite all the causes of death.

A family lost two sons in war but now they have newborn twins in our care!

The family of the twins Mohammad and Alaa no longer looked back after now as their newly born twins had changed their life. The twin's grandmother indicated that she had lost two of her sons in a bombardment and she considered the twins a compensation from Allah, so they named them after their uncles "Mohammad and Alaa".

Your generous contribution had a great impact on this enormous change in the life of this family as your donations offered the needed supplies to run Maternity and childhood hospital in northern Syria and enabled us to provide emergency and obstetric services for the twin's mother (E.M) who arrived at the hospital in a severe case of labor.

In turn, we would like to convey to you the gratitude, satisfaction and prayers that the twin's family expressed. Let's bring happiness to more families when they have newborns and let's reduce number of newborn mortalities by supporting SEMA's reproductive health hospitals.

Thanks to your support, over 1,100 souls were born safely last month!

During last October, we crossed the threshold of 1,100 births, all of whom were born safe and healthy in SEMA hospitals in northern Syria, while 335 of them were born by caesarean section, and 774 were born naturally.

In the normal case, the newborn faces new and harsh conditions to adapt to life outside his mother's body, but in northern Syria, more difficulties await newborns, starting from maternal malnutrition, low birth weight, premature births, and excessive prematurity.

There are high rates of congenital diseases globally in northern Syria, and this is what we are trying to work on with your support.

Your support enables cot deaths to be reduced faster and supports our staff's efforts to save the lives of the youngest and most vulnerable patients.

We cannot face all this without you. Your support is the basis of our work. Your charity is life:

How two heads live in one body, watch this!

Your donations have always been the way to save the lives of dozens of newborns babies and make them see the light after their mothers went through difficult conditions during pregnancy, but now the situation is completely different and we cannot stand helpless in the face of a very rare thing that happened in one of SEMA's hospitals, which is the birth of twins with one body.

Although it is a very rare thing, it has been repeated more than once in northern Syria, specifically in SEMA hospitals, perhaps because of the remnants of the war!

Doctors at SEMA Hospital performed a cesarean section on a woman to give birth to two newborns babies joined in one body and she survived after the doctors' efforts.

How can two heads live in one body?

The survival rate of the two children does not exceed 25%., all SEMA medical staff made great efforts to save the mother and the two children, and they will be sent for treatment to a hospital in Turkey.

Newborns Qais and Laith struggle to survive!

The death of the newly born twins Qais and Laith would have been definite had it not been for the early intervention. Fortunately, the two babies were brought while they were struggling to survive after the Turkish border administration had refused to transfer them given the seriousness of the situation and the possibility that they might die on the way.

The newborns were suffering from respiratory distress and extreme prematurity, so we started to race time to rescue them in the first critical hours of their life, and we successfully accomplished that.

Watch their story:

Our health staff fight every day in all maternity hospitals to prevent neonatal deaths, and surprisingly they made impressive achievements, thanks to your support.

How wonderful it is to make a remarkable victory through saving little souls, and how great it is to do so in these blessed times while thousands are circumambulating around the Kaaba. We all believe in the greatness of saving the human soul created by Allah the Almighty, so let's make our way to Allah and save innocent lives.

My babies can't breathe, help us!

We all know that premature birth poses a great danger to the health of the child, and it can lead to his death, or make him live in permanent agony due to hypoxia. The twins, Qais and Laith, are one of these births. Premature birth and incomplete maturity of the lungs led to respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). , Qais and Laith need urgent help and need to take a pulmonary surfactant injection which helps to regulate their breathing. Qais and Laith two of the dozens of children who enter Al-Ikhaa Hospital every month, help us to help them.

Your support gives "Maria" a chance to live after she was born weighing one kilogram!

While babies weigh 2500 to 3500 grams at birth, Maria did not have enough time to grow during pregnancy as she was born at 32 gestational weeks weighing only one kilogram. She was admitted to the incubator section at Ariha hospital for children and maternity, in western Idleb in northern Syria.

Thanks to Allah, and the availability of the medical equipment that you provided to the hospital, the girl started to recover, and she weighed 1800 g upon discharge. This would not have happened had it not been for your empathy and support.

Your continued contribution means more rescued lives, and more hope for mothers and fathers among the most vulnerable groups who reside in the poorest and least safe areas in the world.

Your support secured life-saving care for the infant Abdullah!

Watch the infant Abdullah five months after recovery

Abdullah is about to complete his first six months, he is in good health, and he does not need anticonvulsant medications.

The infant Abdullah was brought to Al-Ikhaa hospital, located in north of Syria, five hours after he had hypoxia at his birth, and he needed advanced resuscitation. Thanks to your support, we could provide intensive care for 12 days during which the newborn child was put to ventilation, and he received the proper healthcare including treating his low blood sugar, controlling his body temperature, treating blood infection with suitable antibiotics, and managing the accompanying bleeding disorders.

Abdullah was discharged after he became in good health. He can now depend on breastfeeding as the results of the neurological examination was also good. Today, the health staff were glad to see a photo of Abdullah enjoying better health, and we would like to share with you this great achievement.

Al-Ikhaa hospital's proximity saved newborn Ahmad!

Ahmad's mother was admitted in an emergency situation due to a sudden placenta abruption that led to the premature birth of her baby, Ahmad, at 30 weeks of pregnancy. The mother said that her newborn child was in an extremely bad condition and that the health team gently told her that her child might not live, or he might need to be transferred to Turkey.

Thanks to Allah, Ahmad could overcome the breathing difficulties after he received the intensive care. Now, he can go back to his mother's lap again after one month in the incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Your donation keeps them under our care for a longer period instead of leaving them in their death tents!

What is most distressing for parents is when their child is born sick, but this does not apply to the family of a child born in a camp in northern Syria, because the camp has already turned into a place of death and a cemetery for nearly 20 children so far. Therefore, when children are brought alive to the hospital, we cannot discharge them as we fear that they might die from the extreme cold inside the tent!

We, the children we care for, and their parents, are grateful to every donor who helped us through our previous campaigns. Your donations were the direct cause of saving more newborns through the expansion of a neonatal ward and an intensive care unit within our hospitals. Thank you from the heart.

Thanks for Supporting a Moment of Life!

The first moments of our lives are our most vulnerable moments, and the closest either to life or death. We lost many newborns in Al-Ikhaa hospital although we were about to save them, like the baby called Manal who was born at the gestational age of 25 weeks by premature labor. After many attempts to save her life, we lost the girl after 12 days of hope and care, after we had lost her twin sister too, who died at the age of 48 hours.

We also have the case of the baby Muhammad Zeno, whose brother died due to a respiratory distress, while the former was destined to live, thanks to Allah, and the availability of precise medical equipment at Al-Ikhaa Hospital as well as the efforts of the medical staff who went through difficult hours before they could save his life.

In the world of newborns, we need to innovate more medical equipment and measures to save their lives being the most vulnerable at all. We do not want to lose more young lives due to lack of support, and we do not want to add to the catastrophe of the displaced families in the north.

The child Abdullah was able to start a new life. Thanks for your support!

Abdullah is one of those children who experienced perinatal hypoxia. He was referred to Al-Ikhaa Hospital five hours after birth as he needed advanced resuscitation; the child had been intubated with an endotracheal tube to help him breathe in the admitting facility.

Upon the child’s arrival at Al-Ikhaa hospital, a comprehensive management plan was developed including respiratory support using the mechanical ventilation device, treatment of hypoglycemia, control of the child’s temperature through whole body cooling therapy for a period of three days, and then raising the body temperature to the normal level. Concomitant bleeding disorders were also managed, and the blood infection (septicemia) was treated with the appropriate antibiotics.

After twelve days of relentless efforts, hope and constant care, Abdullah was discharged in good health to go home with his parents. He became able to breastfeed from his mother and the results of his neurological examination was good, thanks be to Allah.

Abdullah is one of approximately thirty newborns treated for Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) through whole body cooling therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit at Al Ekhaa Hospital.

Your support helped us saving many lives of newborns babies in Syria!

The pandemic has worsened the health of the newborns, and increased the rate of neonatal deaths by 29% in middle and low-income countries, but this has not discouraged us from continuing our mission of saving young lives, providing compassionate care and contributing to the recovery of more premature infants in northern Syria.

Yesterday, the hearts of the medical caregivers at Al-Ikhaa Hospital were overwhelmed with happiness as they handed over a recovered newborn baby to his family after a successful journey of challenges and suffering.

The little soul was born weighing just one kilogram and began to grow every day with our increasing belief in the greatness of what we provide at Al Ekhaa Hospital.

Your continued support is considered a massive human investment in supporting pregnancy, childbirth and the first month of life. Your support preserved the health of mothers and newborns. Thank you!

The reproductive health of mothers in northern Syria remains one of the most concerning gaps, especially in terms of reaching the poor and young mothers with family planning services, as the early marriage is widespread there. Women, adolescent girls and mothers in northern Syria are the poorest and least educated groups and therefore they “lose a lot” and they have the highest unmet needs. Nevertheless, 18,954 women benefited from reproductive health services during the past month through SEMA’s projects.

Your donation enshrines human rights, especially the rights of mothers, newborns, and pregnant and lactating women. It preserves women's right to family planning services and to birth spacing. Your support provides health care not only for married women and those of childbearing age, but also for thousands of families as it promotes a recovered and healthy lifestyle.

Your support strengthens reproductive health and enshrines human rights, as well as it is a great economic investment because it offers emergency obstetric care and prevents newborns complications, unsafe abortions, unwanted pregnancies, maternal complications and many other potential diseases.

Over the last month, September, we saved the lives of many mothers and their children, and 24,776 people benefited from our reproductive health services, which included 1,635 births.

Ibrahim, Yakoub, and Ayoub, the First Triplets Born in the Maternity Hospital in Al-Bab.

Wafaa M, a displaced woman, gave birth to triplets in the maternity hospital in Al-Bab city in northeast Syria, and this is a new unique case that this health facility witnessed after it had conducted two deliveries of twins in the last two weeks.

The patient was received to the center in her 36th week, in a state that required emergency intervention. We succeeded, thanks to Allah, in saving the lives of the three little souls after the labor symptoms on their mother had been observed and an immediate surgical operation was decided to save her life along with her newborns.

The medical team conducted all necessary medical procedures and tests to realize that the patient was suffering from anemia as her Hemoglobin only counted 8.5 and her blood type was A+. Sooner, three blood units of the needed blood type were prepared as the patient needed two units during the surgery and one after it. In addition, the pediatrician was already called upon and he was ready along with the team to receive the triplets and offer them care and love. It is worth noting that the patient is a mother of four children who were normally born.

The Cesarean surgery was successfully performed without any complications and the three male babies were moved to incubators to monitor their feeding, which was observed as very good. Afterwards, the triplets were brought to their mother who had also been under medical monitoring. Though the patient had abnormal uterine contractions (inertia), the specialists managed to deal with it in a preservative manner, and she was discharged after 48 hours after ensuring she was in healthy condition.

We are pleased to see the little triplets (Ibrahim, Yakoub and Ayoub) in a good health, and our happiness increases because we succeed every time in accepting the challenge and the risk and finally making it. When it comes to the most vulnerable and little souls, we inspire from their weakness to be stronger in supporting their lives.

The lifeblood continues enabling us to access more people

Thanks to the endless assistance of our supporters, we are still able to provide our distinctive and qualitative surgical services for the most vulnerable. Three weeks ago, we managed to save the lives of three female neonates, triplets, in Al Ekhaa Specialized Hospital, making their mother’s maternity dream materialized for the first time.

On the other hand, some of our projects started to move forward to the next level of tertiary health care including the provision of complex and quality surgeries like the case in Idleb Specialized Hospital. We are expanding both horizontally and vertically, and at the same time, we are working to maintain the quality and quantity of our work. We would like to reach more disadvantaged people and offer them the best we can do. Therefore, we deserve your support and trust that we have been enjoying for the past ten years, and through which we managed to save quarter a million people who were in need of surgical interventions.

Modern equipment arrived to Al-Ekhaa Hospital in northern Syria

Newborn babies need much love, warmth and care, and this is what they find in Al-Ekhaa hospital in Atma camp in north of Syria where they open their little eyes and enjoy the great care.

Thanks to Allah, SEMA managed through your generous contributions and continued support for this campaign to purchase a group of medical supplies and equipment to expand the provided services in the newborn Intensive Care Unit.

We would like to thank you and share with you the joy of receiving the new technologies to the hospital, which means a better care during the first and the most important days of the newborn's life.

From now on, we can receive a larger number of neonates to the ICU section, reduce the referrals to the Turkish hospitals and consequently mitigate the risks of transporting the newborn babies. This also means a higher quality of medical services offered for the little souls, which would not have happened without your response to our calls.

Your generosity can make a permanent change in the life of a neonatal baby in north of Syria.

You can help a child start a healthy and may be a better life through donating any amount starting from 1$, 10$, 100$ …. 1000$!

A new success story at Al-Ikha'a Hospital

Al-Ekhaa Hospital staff saves the life of a child after she was born in the hospital.

A female newborn baby, called R.A, was born in Al-Ekhaa Specialized Hospital, supported by SEMA, through an elective cesarean section delivery without any major complications. The baby was examined immediately after birth and all of the vital signs were normal.

However, few hours later, she developed a slight dyspnea and was consequently moved to the incubators section. In the morning of the following day, the dyspnea worsened, so the health care team conducted new examinations and it was realized that she had bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax.

An emergency thoracentesis was performed for the child by a specialized supervisor in Al-Ekhaa Hospital, and the child was put on ventilation. Her case was closely followed up by a group of SEMA's consultants who are responsible for supervising the ICU unit through online means.

After several days, the child's case noticeably improved so she was removed from the ventilator and her feeding was gradually scaled up until she was discharged of the hospital and became in good condition.

Join us and contribute to supporting this hospital so it can provide the quality services needed to save the lives of many newborn children in north of Syria.

New Update on Save Newborn Lives Campaign

More kindness and love and more work and giving are needed for the newborn babies at birth, and they find this in Al-Ekhaa Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.

Thanks to Allah, SEMA managed with your contribution for this campaign to purchase a group of equipment and medical consumables with the purpose of expanding and enhancing the services provided in the neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the hospital; the purchased equipment and supplies included:

  • 3 devices for bacterial culture (laboratory incubator - carbon dioxide incubator - laminar air flow device).
  • 5 Oxygen-air Blender mixtures for NICU.
  • 4 Syringe Pumps.
  • 3 Neonatal cardiac monitors for NICU.
  • 2 Rectal Monitor Sensors.
  • Neonatal Transcutaneous Jaundice mete.

In addition, other medical supplies, needed specifically for the ICU ventilators and incubators, were procured such as ventilator oxygen sensors and ventilation flow sensors and other supplies.

Current number of beneficiaries in Al-Ekhaa Specialized Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital reaches 7500 women and children on monthly basis, and number of conducted deliveries is up to 18 deliveries per day.

The neonatal ICU section has been established and it contains 25 beds, among them, nine beds are for intermediate care and one for intensive care.

Once the purchased equipment and supplies are delivered to the hospital, the neonatal ICU section will be able to accommodate and provide the service for three newborn babies instead of one, and this will also enhance the quality of the specialized services offered to all the neonates, and consequently contribute to reducing number of referrals of critical cases to Turkey hospitals as they will be treated inside Syria.

Further updates and a report about the equipment will be shared with you once it is delivered to the hospital, Insha'Allah.

Your continuous support for this campaign will sustain the life-saving services for hundreds of neonates in one of the most suffering regions in the world.

Belal and Ghufran newborn twins story

Belal and Ghufran are twins who shared the same shelter and blood in their mother’s womb, and it was destined for them to be born early in the 31st week of pregnancy, when it was observed that Belal’s condition was less stable than his sister’s.

The girl, Ghufran, was admitted to the incubator section in Al-Ekhaa Hospital, which is managed by SEMA, while her brother was referred to the Turkish hospitals because of the development of dyspnea with symptoms of RDS.

Ghufran was discharged from Al-Ekhaa Hospital after she was kept for 40 days, and then she was brought back 10 days later complaining from aspiration pneumonia and decelerated heartbeats. She was admitted again to the Neonates Intensive Care Unit where her condition stabilized.

The twins were apart for sixty days, and each of them recovered away from the other, yet they met again in Al-Ekhaa Hospital and both had good health, thanks to Allah.

Your donation today for this campaign will assist us to improve the medical services provided to the neonatal babies and will save their lives… Donate Now!
