Sixty years ago, a small group of Lebanese families in Lakemba came together with a simple vision to establish a place where Muslims could pray, belong and build a strong community.
That vision became the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA), the organisation behind Lakemba Mosque and one of Australia's largest and most established Muslim communities.
Today, that same vision continues nearly 400 kilometres away in the regional town of Young, NSW.
Young Mosque is more than a building. It is a place where families will gather, children will learn, travellers will find a place to pray, and future generations will stay connected to their faith.
It is the only mosque serving the local Muslim community in Young and a beacon for Muslims across regional Australia.
Together, thousands of supporters have helped build what is set to become Australia's largest regional Islamic Centre.
This remarkable achievement reflects the generosity of a community that believes every Muslim, no matter where they live deserves a place to worship, learn and belong.
Construction is nearly complete. The prayer halls are in place. The minaret stands proudly.
The vision that began years ago is almost ready to welcome its first worshippers.
