You yearn to engage in ‘ibadah with peace of mind, but a quiet turmoil sparks inside you at the mention of “menstruation”. An inner conflict about when to pray, fast, or perform ghusl. You’re longing to find answers that respect your health and faith but unsure where to turn.

We get it. We’ve been there too.

Isn't it time we support Muslim women’s menstrual health within our community?

Each month, Muslim women worldwide align their faith with their bodies' natural cycle—a beautiful, complex, and deeply personal journey. Yet, this comes with its own set of challenges: 

The lack of menstrual education within the Islamic context can leave us feeling alone, particularly in societies where discussing such topics openly is uncommon. For too long, Muslim women have grappled in solitude with questions unanswered: When is it permissible to resume my prayers? How do I track my fasts amidst the unpredictability of my cycle? Why must cultural taboos dictate the way I understand my own body?

Many of us are fraught with more questions than answers about our own bodies and Islamic rulings related to menstruation. Although numerous menstrual tracking apps are available, none seem to accommodate our lives shaped by our Islamic values and unique experiences.

I’m Farzana, the founder of Taahirah. 

My journey to creating this app is deeply personal. Married at 21, I was suddenly figuring out family planning with little guidance. Like countless Muslim women, I struggled with everything from erratic periods/spotting to mood swings, depression, and nausea. But what really weighed on me was questioning when to perform my religious duties like ghusl, praying or fasting. 

Navigating my menstrual and chronic health condition while trying to fulfil my Islamic practices was tough! I relied on a mix of scattered notes, endless Google searches, and general period tracking apps, but none of these fit my needs as a Muslim woman. I felt alone, unsure, and without the right resources or consistently available Shaykha's to turn to for tailored advice. I realised my experience wasn’t unique (and maybe much easier than others!); it was a silent struggle for many of us.

That’s when I knew things needed to change, which is why I started Taahirah.

With my background in Law from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and my ongoing Islamic studies, I saw an opportunity to use my access to knowledge. Noticing women around me struggling with health issues like PCOS and endometriosis and/or unaware of the intricate Islamic rulings on menstruation, I saw a gap that desperately needed to be bridged. So, why not use my access to education and knowledge to do so?

With Taahirah, I want to leverage technology to serve the deen, offering thoughtful and thorough solutions to modern Muslim women's challenges, all with wisdom and grace. 

This isn't just my story—it's a call to action to ensure no woman feels alone in her journey again!

Merging technology with Islamic Law, we're launching the first app for Muslim women’s menstrual health. From prayers to fasting, our app will provide personalised guidance to help you easily navigate menstrual health and Fiqh (Islamic Law) obligations! You'll never have to guess again about when to pray, when to fast, or how to navigate religious obligations with confidence and clarity.
