Share the Warmth: Winter Relief for Ottawa's Unhoused

Winter in Ottawa isn't just a season; it’s a survival challenge. Rally for Relief is raising funds to provide essential Winter Kits to our neighbors sleeping on the streets. For just $35, you can provide a complete "Winter Kit" that offers core warmth and protection to someone in urgent need during the coldest nights of the year.

Ottawa, as Canada’s capital city, continues to face a significant and growing homelessness crisis. A 2023 report by the City of Ottawa highlighted persistent strains on shelter capacity and available resources, underscoring the critical role played by community-led initiatives in addressing service gaps.

Recent data further illustrates the scale of the issue. A 2024 point-in-time count identified over 3,000 individuals experiencing homelessness, representing a substantial increase from 2021, with actual figures believed to be even higher. In addition, nearly 10,000 individuals accessed Ottawa’s shelter system in 2024, compared to approximately 7,000 in 2020, reflecting a sharp rise in demand for emergency housing and support services.

When the temperature hits -20°C, the risk of frostbite and hypothermia becomes a nightly reality. We believe that no one should face the Ottawa winter alone. Rally for Relief was created to turn our shared compassion into something tangible. We aren't just sending "thoughts", we are sending blankets, socks, and the protection needed to survive the cold.

Why This Matters:

Ottawa winters are unforgiving. Without proper gear, individuals are at risk of frostbite, hypothermia, and serious health complications. Something as simple as a blanket or gloves can mean the difference between safety and danger.

This project is about:

Protecting lives during the peak of winter.

Supporting vulnerable members of our local community.
