Dear friends, colleagues, and all who stand for justice,
Dr. Badar Khan Suri is once again facing an urgent legal battle in the United States as his deportation proceedings continue.
Badar and his family find themselves once again in a terrifying, opaque, and costly legal ordeal.
On September 21, 2026 the Trump administration filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to revive its efforts to detain Badar. His legal team is challenging the government’s petition as they work to protect his freedom and to defend his ability to seek relief from federal courts while his immigration case continues.
At the same time, his immigration case is ongoing, with his next hearing scheduled for October. The ongoing legal proceedings are expected to cost more than $200,000. Without sufficient funding, his ability to continue his legal representation could be seriously affected.
Who is Dr Badar Khan Suri?
Badar is a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown University's Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He holds a PhD in Peace & Conflict Studies and has devoted his academic career to researching peace, conflict, political violence, and dialogue, across Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, and West and South Asia.
On the evening of March 17th, after Badar was returning from Ramadan iftar, masked ICE agents took Badar from his family. He was arrested, transported thousands of miles from his family, and imprisoned by ICE. He was then charged under a rarely used law that the Trump Administration has used to target those who support Palestinian rights purely for their speech, with the government claiming that his presence in the United States would have “adverse foreign policy consequences.”
Two months later, a federal court ordered his release from detention, finding that there was a high probability that he would succeed in his claims that the federal government was unconstitutionally punishing him for his speech expressing support for the Palestinian people, and for his association with his wife, who is of Palestinian origin, and her family.
Even though Badar is thankfully back with his family, the government is continuing to try to detain him and deport him. His deportation proceedings are continuing in immigration court, where the government ruled on November 2025 that he is deportable, just because Secretary of State thinks so. This bogus charge can – and will – be overcome with your support.
Today, Dr. Badar Khan Suri and his family again face an uncertain and costly legal process.
