Iqra Academy, a school in the working-class suburb of Belhar (South Africa), is facing imminent closure unless urgent funds are raised to enable 140 students to access quality education.

“We need to firstly ensure that all 140 students at the school, are able to re-register for next year, and that the school is open with the requisite resources, to be able to provide quality education. Secondly, we want to gradually introduce components of a virtual and blended learning high school, which will be the first of its kind in a community like Belhar,” stated Imaad Isaacs, Founder of the Imaad Isaacs Foundation.

The school requires a minimum R2,5 Million ($ 170,728) in 2020 to remain open and operate within the paradigm of offering quality education, with the gradual implementation of components of a virtual high school

“Virtual high schools will be the norm in the next few years. We need to ensure that this pedagogy transcends economic boundaries, and that all students irrespective of their economic status are able to access it. This is why saving Iqra Academy is so pertinent. We have the opportunity to pilot this programme in a community desperately in need of quality education,” added Isaacs.
