Free 3D-printed prosthetics to help Palestinian children regain independence.

“Gaza is home to the largest cohort of child amputees in modern history.”

- Lisa Doughten, director at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)

Right now, thousands of children have lost limbs to violence they never chose. Over 80% of them have no access to prosthetic care. That's where we come in.

Universal Limbs Foundation is a volunteer-led non-profit working to provide upper-limb prosthetics to amputees, especially children, scarred by war and genocide – our focus is Palestine.

Universal Limbs: A Volunteer-Led Canadian Initiative

Founded in 2025 by Lina Zdruli and Rasna Mantha, Universal limbs is driven by a passionate team of prosthetists, doctors, engineers, humanitarians, and 3D printing experts.

Our team is dedicated to providing free, custom prosthetic arms and the rehabilitation support necessary to help these children regain independence and confidence.

We are building 3D-printed prosthetics based on open-source designs from e-NABLE, and we are deeply grateful for their open-source contributions. We are actively conducting research and development to create our own innovative prosthetic designs and solutions.

What we are offering:

✅ Custom-Fitted 3D-Printed Prosthetics – Lightweight, durable, and designed to support the child until they outgrow it, where a new one will be provided to ensure the best fit and function.
✅ Remote Physiotherapy – Ensuring every person learns how to use their new limb effectively.
✅ Trauma-Informed Counseling – Healing the emotional scars that come with limb loss.
✅ Local Training & Sustainability – Teaching local technicians to build and maintain prosthetics, creating a long-term, community-driven solution.

🦾 Our Current Goal: Egypt Pilot Project — Supporting Palestinian Refugees

Right now, because of the aid blockade, we can’t reach families inside Gaza, although we have had the honour to have our limbs aboard the Gaza Freedom Flotillas, the Madleen and the Handala. Until the occupation allows an adequate flow of aid into Gaza, we will be building up the people and places around it, such as Egypt and Lebanon — so when access opens, we’ll be ready with tools, skills, people, and love.

We’ve started our first pilot in Egypt, supporting Palestinian refugees who have lost limbs because of genocide. This phase helps us determine what works — the right materials, fit, comfort — and how to ensure each prosthetic is truly functional, comfortable, and effective.

🦾 Our Next Goal: Mobile Clinic

Our current priority is the Egypt Pilot project, but we will be simultaneously getting started on our next project, the creation of a mobile clinic retrofit with:

  • Onboard 3D printers
  • A technician to handle printing and customization
  • A psychosocial support worker
  • A physiotherapist to assist with rehabilitation

Where will your donations go?

  1. R&D and prosthetic manufacturing. This includes purchasing spools, 3D printers, and all necessary components to produce the devices. Each prosthetic limb costs around $300 for materials and production. We also fund tools like a 3D scanning app that will ensure the recipient’s prosthetic socket fits accurately.
  2. Essential administrative and communication tools. This includes platforms like Slack and Google Workspace. These tools are essential for keeping our team, consisting of members located throughout North America and internationally, connected and organized.
  3. Travel expenses for prosthetists during their stay in Egypt, where they will collect measurements and connect with patients on the ground.
