My £5,000 Fundraising Campaign for Maa Global

In 2026, I had the opportunity to travel to Bangladesh as part of JourneyMaa.

During the trip, we supported over 400 mothers across five health camps, helping provide essential maternal healthcare to women who may otherwise struggle to access it.

Seeing the work Maa does first-hand made a huge impact on me and showed me how important accessible maternal healthcare really is.

Why does Maa exist?

Around 95% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries, and many of these deaths are preventable.

Maa works to improve maternal healthcare by providing free and accessible care, education and support to women, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Maa currently operates three clinics in Bangladesh, where expectant mothers can receive antenatal checks including blood pressure monitoring, urine and blood glucose testing, medical consultations and medication free of charge.

Maa has also opened a Natural Birthing Center, helping provide further support to mothers during pregnancy and childbirth.

The organisation was founded by Dr Aqil Jaigirdar after he witnessed the consequences of poor access to maternal healthcare during a medical trip to Bangladesh. That experience led to the creation of Maa and its mission to improve maternal healthcare and prevent avoidable complications.

My goal

Although JourneyMaa has finished, the work continues throughout the year.

That is why I have set myself a target of raising £5,000 for Maa.

Over the coming months, I will be taking part in and organising different fundraising events and challenges to help reach this target.

I know £5,000 is ambitious, but with enough support I believe we can reach it.

Any donation, no matter the amount, will help Maa continue supporting mothers in Bangladesh.
