When Azeez Al-Shaair chose to wear the words “Stop the Genocide,” he wasn’t making a political statement — he was making a moral one. He used his platform to speak for people whose voices are being silenced, knowing there could be consequences. And those consequences came in the form of a $11,593 fine.
Islam teaches us that standing for justice is not optional. Allah says:
“O you who believe, stand firmly for justice, as witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves…” (Qur’an 4:135)
Azeez did exactly that. He stood for justice when it was uncomfortable, when it cost him personally.
Instead of letting that cost disappear quietly as punishment, we are choosing to flip the script.
If Azeez is going to be down $11,593 for standing for humanity, then we want that same amount to go toward relief for Palestine — in his name. This campaign is raising the exact amount of the fine and rerouting it as a donation to a Palestinian relief fund, turning what was meant to silence a message into real aid for those who need it most.
What was meant as punishment will become relief.
What was meant to discourage will become sadaqah.
And what was meant to cost one person will become a collective act of good.
Let this be a moment where the Muslim community shows that when someone risks their career, reputation, and income to say “Stop the genocide,” we respond by saying: “We’ve got you.”
