Rohingya. When the grid fails, life stops.
What if power could not be cut off?
Modular, repairable portable power stations — storing energy from sun, wind, and even human effort.
Built locally. Fixed locally. Owned locally.
Energy independence is not a luxury. It is resilience.
Developing modular, repairable portable power stations that store and distribute renewable energy from wind, pedal, and solar systems.
Help us reach our goal of $25,000 to expand and refine the Nushoor Portable Power Station (PPS) — a modular electricity storage system designed for environments where grid power is unreliable, damaged, or entirely absent.
Generating electricity is only part of the solution.
Without safe storage and distribution:
Renewable energy is wasted
Medical equipment becomes unstable
Lighting fails
Communication collapses
The Portable Power Station transforms intermittent energy into reliable, usable power.
Abdullah explains how the portable power station works.
Nushoor Institute is a 501(c)(3) social incubator based in Buffalo, NY. We develop practical, replicable systems in critical sectors such as water, food, energy, and public health — designed for constrained environments.
This campaign supports the continued development of the Portable Power Station, the backbone of Nushoor’s decentralized energy ecosystem.
Rather than importing expensive lithium battery systems, the PPS is built using widely available and salvaged components, prioritizing:
• Accessibility
• Repairability
• Modularity
• Scalability
The goal is infrastructure that communities can maintain themselves.
The Portable Power Station repurposes components salvaged from abandoned vehicles and appliances, including:
• Automotive fuse boxes
• Lead-acid batteries
• Wiring harnesses
• Alternators
• Appliance motors
• Solar panels
• Inverters and charge controllers
Core design principles:
🔹 Modular — Units can be expanded or interconnected
🔹 Repairable — Built using familiar automotive components
🔹 Multi-input — Accepts wind, pedal, and solar energy
🔹 Portable — Boxed enclosure with mobility upgrades
Multiple units can be linked together to form a small-scale community microgrid.

The PPS is designed to integrate directly with:
• Nushoor Wind Turbines
• Nushoor Pedal Generators
• Repaired Solar Panels
• Future renewable inputs
It converts variable energy generation into stable output for:
• 12V DC lighting
• Phone and device charging
• Communication tools
• Small medical equipment
• Essential household appliances
This creates a decentralized energy network built from available materials.
A proof-of-concept Portable Power Station has been completed.
Recent progress includes:
• Improved mobility upgrades
• Replacement of a commercial fuse box with a salvaged automotive fuse box for better accessibility
• Instructional video preparation for release on Archive.org to enable open-source replication
• Ongoing safety refinements and electrical optimization
The system is transitioning from prototype to replicable model.

When centralized grids collapse, communities are left vulnerable.
Decentralized storage allows:
• Renewable energy to be captured and preserved
• Critical services to remain operational
• Households to maintain communication
• Microgrids to be built from local components
Electricity should not depend on fragile infrastructure alone.
It must be adaptable, repairable, and locally controlled.
Funds raised will support:
• Battery sourcing and refurbishment
• Salvaged fuse box integration
• Electrical safety components
• Inverter and charge controller upgrades
• Mobility and enclosure improvements
• Documentation and instructional video production
• Student engineer stipends
• Prototype refinement and testing

"People around the globe have been very dependent on this aid. I remember this when I was young as well back in Afghanistan, aid was coming in, giving people what they need but it was limiting the people in these regions who are hurt and broken. What they need is how to do stuff"
