Across Malaysia, many children with special needs are still struggling to access proper education, therapy, and developmental support.

Some families travel hours just to find help.

Others are forced to delay therapy, reduce intervention, or go without help entirely because they simply cannot afford it.

For families already struggling to survive, specialised education and therapy can begin to feel painfully out of reach.

Humairah is 13 years old and has barely attended school or therapy. At times, her mother had to choose between putting food on the table or paying for specialised education and care that could shape her daughter’s future.

While other children her age are growing through school, routines, and daily life, Humairah is still being left behind by circumstances her family cannot control.

After 15 years supporting special needs families in Singapore, MIJ Hub is now building a school in Kuala Lumpur so more children can finally access the care, therapy, and support they deserve.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم taught us that when a person passes away, their deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them.

Too Many Families Are Still Struggling To Access Proper Support

The number of registered special needs individuals in Malaysia has increased by 68% over the past 7 years, with over 265,000 registered cases as of 2023.

Yet many families are still struggling to access the support their children urgently need.

Some parents wait months for therapy appointments.
Others travel long distances multiple times a week just to receive basic intervention.
Some are forced to reduce therapy or stop support entirely because the cost has simply become too overwhelming.

Without consistent support, some children may continue growing up unable to communicate their needs clearly, cope in social environments, or navigate daily life more independently.

For many families, the fear is not only about today.
It is about what happens to their child in the years ahead if proper support remains out of reach.

We are not simply building classrooms.

We are working towards building a place where children can:

• receive therapy, education, and vocational support under one roof
• learn how to communicate instead of struggling silently through frustration
• feel safer and less overwhelmed in environments designed around their needs
• build emotional regulation, confidence, and daily living skills
• receive intervention earlier before developmental gaps become harder to manage over time
• gain greater independence and dignity for their future

For many families, this could become the first place where they finally feel hope for their child’s future.

Founded in 2011 by Faraliza Zainal, a mother of a child with special needs, MIJ Hub has supported more than 900 individuals across Singapore and Malaysia.

Built from lived experience and years of working closely with families, MIJ Hub provides structured and personalised programmes designed to support children with special needs while guiding caregivers through every stage of their journey.

Today, MIJ Hub continues working towards a future where more families can access support with dignity, consistency, and care.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“The believers, in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion, are like one body. When one part suffers, the whole body responds.”

As Muslims, we are taught that caring for one another goes beyond nationality and borders.

This school may be in Malaysia, but the impact belongs to every child and family whose lives may be changed through it, insyaAllah.
