Help Complete the New Masjid in Athens, Ga, Before Ramadan.

The Muslim community of Athens, Georgia has dreamed for decades of building a masjid that can properly serve local families, students, and future generations.

In 2018, we began this journey with faith, determination, and a projected construction cost of approximately $1.5 million. Then the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. Construction costs, materials, labor, and financing expenses increased dramatically. Today, the total project cost has grown to nearly $3.5 million.

Despite these challenges, our small community has not given up.

Athens is primarily a university town. Unlike larger metropolitan areas, we do not have a large donor base. Our community consists mostly of students, young families, and working professionals. Only a small number of local physicians and business owners have been able to make major contributions.

Yet, by the mercy of Allah and the sacrifices of our community, we have already raised and spent approximately $1 million toward this project. In addition, we secured a $1 million loan that must be repaid. Every dollar raised so far represents years of hard work, commitment, and belief in this vision. Our small community has already contributed $1 million and taken on a $1 million interest free loan from IJARA. We are not asking others to build this masjid for us—we are asking them to help us finish what we have already sacrificed to begin.

Today, construction is underway, but we have reached a critical stage.

We urgently need an additional $1.5 million to complete the project and open the masjid for the coming Ramadan. Without this support, construction delays could jeopardize the completion of a project that our community has worked toward for years.

This masjid will serve:

• Local Muslim families throughout Northeast Georgia
• Children who need Islamic education and youth programs
• Students attending the University of Georgia
• Graduate students, PhD candidates, and medical residents
• Future generations of Muslims who will call Athens home

For years, some families have driven an hour or more to neighboring cities so their children could attend Islamic programs and Sunday school. Our children deserve a place to learn, grow, and build their Islamic identity within their own community.

This project is more than a building. It is an investment in the future of Islam in Athens and the surrounding region. It is a Sadaqah Jariyah that will continue to benefit worshippers, students, families, and children for generations to come.
