Three years on, families in Gaza are still lining up with empty pots.

On October 2 and 3, MATW Meals cooks stood over open fires in North and South Gaza and served hot rice and meat to displaced families, one ladle at a time. The pots emptied fast. The lines did not.

For families who have been displaced, preparing a meal is no longer as simple as going home and cooking dinner. Many are living in tents and temporary shelters, with limited access to food, cooking supplies and fuel. A freshly cooked meal means one less thing a mother or father has to worry about that day—and one more family can sit together and eat.

And now winter is approaching.

Tents do not hold heat. Cold nights make already difficult living conditions even harder, especially for children and families who have spent months displaced from their homes. As temperatures fall, something as simple as a steaming plate of rice and meat can provide both nourishment and a moment of warmth.

A hot meal cannot solve everything a family in Gaza is facing. But it can make today a little easier.
