Empowering Young Amputees: A Story of Hope and Healing

Kinder Limbs is a collective of deeply concerned citizens dedicated to transforming the lives of children who have endured traumatic amputations. We recognize the immense physical and emotional challenges they face and are committed to providing tangible support and fostering hope. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to rebuild their life with dignity and confidence, and we strive to empower them to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams.

Children facing amputations due to conflict and crisis need hope and healing. We're launching this fundraiser to create and distribute an illustrated children's story, providing vital psychological support and explaining the process of receiving a prosthetic limb. Featuring Amal, a 10-year-old heroine who navigates adventures with her prosthetic leg, alongside her best friend Wathiq and loyal dog Zaatar, this story demonstrates that life continues after amputation and inspires children to reclaim their dreams. Through Amal’s experiences, children will learn that physical limitations do not define their potential, and that courage, friendship, and determination can overcome any obstacle.

Excerpt from the Story: "Amal & Aziza" (translated from the original Arabic)

"Amal woke up to the sound of the alarm clock. She reached out to turn it off, but it was too far away, so she called out, 'Zaatar!'"

"A small, cute, white dog came out from under her bed. Amal smiled at him and said, 'Bring Aziza!'"

"Zaatar ran towards the corner of the room and picked up a metal object in his jaws. It resembled a stick and was leaning against the wall. Quickly he brought it to Amal. Amal took it from Zaatar's mouth and said, 'Good morning, Aziza!'"

"Aziza was the prosthetic leg that Amal wore instead of her missing leg. Amal lost her left leg in an accident she didn't like to remember much, but Amal, as usual, accepted the new situation and continued to dream of a more beautiful life, and named her new leg 'Aziza.' Amal held the end of Aziza and pointed it towards the alarm clock that wouldn't stop ringing, and pressed the wide button at the top of the alarm clock with the other end, and the sound stopped."

What Your Donations Will Go For:

This fundraiser will directly support the development and printing of this crucial children’s story. This story incorporates art therapy and essential medical information, reviewed by child psychologists, prosthetic technicians, and authors. By providing engaging narratives and relatable characters, we aim to address emotional growth, acceptance of prosthetic limbs, and coping with trauma.

Phase 1: Production Costs - $2,500

This initial phase will cover the critical groundwork for bringing Amal's story to life. This includes:

• Illustrations and Design: Professional illustrators will create engaging and emotionally resonant artwork, capturing Amal's adventures and conveying the story's message of hope.
• Story Development and Editing: Child psychologists and authors will collaborate to refine the narrative, ensuring it is both impactful and age-appropriate.
• Initial Print Run: This will enable us to produce a first batch of books for immediate distribution to children in need.

Phase 2: English Translation & Expanded Production - $2,500 (If we exceed our initial goal)

Any donations received beyond the $2,500 will be allocated towards:

• Professional English Translation and Copywriting: Ensuring the story is accessible to a wider audience.
• Layout Adjustments: Optimizing the book's layout for different reading directions and cultural contexts.
• Expanded Print Runs and Distribution: Increasing the number of books printed and exploring partnerships with European/UK publishers to reach more children.
• Potential digital distribution.
