Help Bring Solar-Powered Wells To Provide Clean Water For Rural Togo Africa. Water-The Best Charity! Donate Water This Ramadan and Earn Ongoing Sadaqah Jariyah

Water, A Gift of Life! Help Bring Solar-Powered  Wells to Dankpen Villages in Togo.  Water is The Best Charity to give according to the Prophet Muhammad (SAS).

The families in Dankpen Prefecture in Togo, West Africa, face a water crisis. For years, these communities of indigenous families in rural Togo have struggled with access to clean drinking water, puting burden on Women & Children.

Our Organization (WHF) Womens Health First’s Local Project Coordinator, Imam Tairou Atengo, a Social Anthropologist with over 19 years of experience in Islamic Dawa and improving community development work in rural Togo, went out to visit DANKPEN Prefecture, which had identified serious water and sanitation problems in the villages. Ten (10) additional communities besides NANANI Village (our first project in Dankpen Prefecture, as seen in the video). These Communities are: 1- KISSAMONSI, 2-GBANGBALE, 3-BOUGABOU, 4- LAGNINDO, 5- KPATCHALBOU, 6- NASSIBIK, 7- DJANGBOUDJADO, 8- IBOBOU, 9- IBOUNDJO, and 10- IGBIMBI communities. These indigenous families need clean drinking water and are waiting for your generous help. One Community at a time, One Well at a time Insha'Allah.

Need Assessment
Globally, 2.2 billion people lack safely managed drinking water, and Sub-Saharan Africa carries the heaviest burden, with nearly 400 million people without basic water access. Women and girls in the region spend an estimated 200 million hours every day collecting water, time lost from school, work, and rest. In Togo, only 56% of rural households have access to basic drinking water, and in northern districts like Dankpen, access rates are significantly lower. Women and children often walk 3–6 miles daily to collect unsafe water, contributing to high rates of diarrheal disease, typhoid, and parasitic infections. These preventable illnesses remain a leading cause of child mortality and a major barrier to women’s health and community development (UN -SDGs data, UNICEF, 2021).

Women and Girls bear Reproductive Health Risks and have found difficulties cleaning themselves during menses and childbearing due to water scarcity. Notably, Muslim Women face additional challenges of access to clean water to perform Wudu or Gusul before praying. According to  UNICEF, the water condition leads to illness and, in some cases, death, particularly among children under the age of 5 years (UNICEF, 2023).

Proving Track Record: WHF has already installed five solar-powered wells (through Georgia Gives on Giving Tuesday and  LaunchGood  Crowdfunding Campaigns), 4 wells in Dankpen, Togo, and 1 in Maina Bindi in Nigeria, each demonstrating measurable improvements in health, safety, and daily quality of life. Yet many villages remain without safe water, underscoring the urgent need for continued investment.

Project Goal: To empower women and improve community health, safety, and resilience by providing sustainable access to clean drinking water through the installation of a solar-powered well in a rural village in Dankpen, Togo.

Expected Outcomes For The Project

  • Clean water access for hundreds of residents (an average of 1500 people).
  • Significant reduction in waterborne illnesses.
  • Increased school attendance for children.
  • Improved safety and reduced daily labor for women and girls.
  • Long-term sustainability through community-led management.

Budget Summary
Total Estimated Cost: $12,000
(Covers drilling, solar infrastructure, storage tank, distribution points, training, monitoring, WASH/Handwashing Education, and contingency.)

Sustainability
The well will be managed by a community-led water committee, trained by WHF to oversee maintenance and ensure long-term functionality. Solar technology minimizes operational costs, and a small community contribution model will support future repairs.

Conclusion
This project will transform daily life for a rural community in Dankpen by providing safe, sustainable, and accessible water. With your donation and support, our organization Womens Health First, will continue to support marginalized communities, promote women’s health, safety, and empowerment—one well at a time.
