It is with great sadness we share with you the following news:

In the early hours of Tuesday, the 2nd August 2022, severe winds uprooted a large tree on the neighbouring public open space, which fell directly onto the main prayer hall of The Canning Mosque (Suleymaniye Mosque), Perth, WA.

Significant damage was caused to the roof, structural beams, perimeter, and boundary walls. Subsequent water ingress from the heavy rainstorm has since completely flooded the main hall and caused substantial damage to everything inside.

The damages are estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The structure is insured; however, the cost of the damages is expected to far exceed the Maximum Coverage for storm damage.

The Canning Suleymaniye Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Western Australia and has been providing essential services to the wider community since its establishment in 1984. In addition to daily congregational prayers, the Mosque provides educational classes for children, births, deaths and marriage services, counselling, youth mentorship and interfaith programmes. It has a reputation for being a friendly place where visitors from all walks of life are always welcomed.

The Management Committee of The Canning Suleymaniye Mosque are urgently requesting your generous contribution for the rebuilding of the Mosque.

Any amount donated will make a difference and together we can restore our Mosque to the place that has served our community for nearly 40 years.
