For years, the Muslim community of Newark, California longed for a masjid to call home—a place to pray together, teach our children, and strengthen our community.

Alhamdulillah, that dream became a reality through Al-Medina Education Center (MEC).

With Allah’s blessing and the generosity of our community, we purchased a former church for $3.3 million and transformed it into a house of Allah. Today, MEC is a gathering place where faith grows, children learn, and neighbors care for one another.

Your support helps secure the home where this work happens:

• Prayer and spiritual connection: Regular congregational prayers and Friday Jumu‘ah bring our community together in worship. MEC
• Sunday School: Children learn the Quran, Islamic values, and adab—building character through respect, kindness, and compassion. Sunday School
• Afterschool Quran Program: Dedicated opportunities for Quran learning beyond the school day. MEC’s program listings
• Weekly Quran Tafsir Majlis: Tuesday gatherings for learning and reflecting on the Quran. MEC’s program listings

• Roots of Iman Summer Camp: A seasonal program combining faith, Quran memorization, Arabic reading, sports, games, and creative activities. Roots of Iman
• Weekly Friday community food drive: Every Friday before Jumu‘ah, MEC distributes food to the community, including dry goods, fruits, and vegetables. Distribution runs from the morning putting compassion into action for our neighbors. Food Distribution

The building has been purchased, and the church has been paid in full. Now, we must honor the trust of those who helped make it possible. This is the photo of the property when we bought it.

Community members stepped forward with interest-free loans to help complete the purchase. Their generosity gave our masjid a home. Those loans still need to be repaid. Below are photos of the renovations we did to convert it from a church to a masjid.
