Deadly Airstrikes Kill and Displace Hundreds in Lebanon

About 1 million people in Lebanon displaced by Israeli attacks: Minister Nasser Yassin, the minister coordinating Lebanon's crisis response, told the Reuters news agency that
about 1 million Lebanese people have been displaced by Israeli attacks, including hundreds of thousands forced to flee their homes since Friday.

As we reported earlier, heavy Israeli bombardment have forced many families to flee the densely populated neighbourhood of Dahiyeh, in southern Beirut, since Friday.

In just three days, scores of bombs have killed over 600 of people in Lebanon, damaging schools, homes, and roads and other infrastructure. Almost half a million families have been forced to flee with little time, they urgently need nourishing food.

Each family-sized meal will contain a chicken, 1.5 kilograms of rice, a kilo of yoghurt, a kilo of fruit and vegetables, 200 grams of dates and a local dessert.

As we roll out our hot meal distribution, we’re also preparing to expand our work to provide food parcels, hygiene kits, and shelter kits to help families to cope with the sudden and extreme insecurity.

Gaza needs your mercy now

As more shelters and more refugee camps are bombed, families in Gaza – already displaced multiple times – have nowhere safe to go. The survivors face horrific scenes, and it’s getting harder each day to cope as hospitals, water sources, and farm land – all elements needed for survival - are bombed.

After 12 months of conflict, at least 42,065 have had their lives taken., including nearly 16,765 child. More than 97,886 people have been injured and more than 10,000 people missing.

The total number of people we helped in the last year in Gaza is 6,105,277. This appears higher than the number of people in Gaza because many families are helped several times over, and humanitarian agencies always count each distribution as an independent number.

Decimated health infrastructure

Only 11 out of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are functioning in any capacity and the few hospitals left standing are struggling to treat patients without enough medicine, anaesthesia, doctors, or equipment. Disease is spreading among displaced families, and 9,000 critical patients need to be evacuated out of the Gaza Strip.

We’re also providing food to medical staff, allowing them to keep working through long shifts of saving lives with little-to-no rest and not enough food. Help us to help them continue saving lives.

Our mobile clinics in Gaza are treating people facing sickness and infection. Each week our clinic moves to a different UN school shelter and treats around 70 people per day, providing pediatric, gynecology, as well as treatment for chronic diseases, such as diabetes. Our mobile clinics save lives, and every life saved is precious.

Hunger and famine

Families who fled the violence are now grappling with acute hunger, with children and infants particularly at risk of malnutrition. Heartbreaking scenes unfold daily as children waste away, their lives on the line for the simplest need – food.

Palestinians in Gaza are facing the highest levels of starvation ever recorded. Famine is imminent and 1.1 million people are facing catastrophic hunger. 28 babies have died of starvation and dehydration.

Destruction and displacement

More bombs than fell throughout WW2 have exploded in the Gaza Strip over the past seven months, turning the small strip of land to rubble. 62% of all homes are destroyed, displacing 1.7 million people – that’s 75% of the population who no longer have a place to call home.

Water and waste system destroyed

Gaza was already suffering a water crisis before October 7th. Now most families have no access to safe drinking water, the wastewater network is destroyed, and dehydration, hepatitis, skin diseases, and diarrhoea are rife.

Even before the escalation, 97% of Gaza’s water was unsafe to drink. Now, with infrastructure in ruins, people have been pushed to the extreme of drinking water that can make them sick.

Our desalination plant provides 52,000 litres of clean, safe water per hour, and is a true lifeline to the community.

As humans and as Muslims, it is our sacred duty to do all we can to put an end to their unbearable suffering.
