In the heart of Watford we’re transforming a historic building into a living, breathing community home that will serve generations to come. A house of Allah ﷻ in both name and action, Masjid Al-Ummah, is designed to be a vibrant, multi-functional space that will be a lively, welcoming space built on unity, kindness, and service.

Just as Masjid Al-Quba in Medina was the Prophet’s ﷺ first centre of worship and community, Masjid Al-Ummah aims to follow that example—living out those same values today. This will be a place for families, a safe space for young people, and a spiritual home for anyone seeking peace. It will serve the whole Watford community—Muslim and non-Muslim alike.

More Than a Masjid – A Full Community Hub

Masjid Al-Ummah won’t just be a prayer space. It will be a centre built around people’s real, everyday needs. Open, welcoming, and free from any divisions, it will offer spaces for worship, learning, and community life.

Our goals are to:

1. Preserve and build our faith and its values while serving the wider community.
2. Bring back the masjid’s role as a place of guidance, learning, and leadership.
3. Provide modern, accessible facilities for worship, education, health, fitness, and recreation.
4. Bring people of all backgrounds and ages together in a spirit of unity and care.
5. Support spiritual growth, friendship, and learning for the whole community.
6. Build long-term financial stability (waqf) and protect the environment through smart planning and eco-friendly habits.

Our Planned Services

With Allah (SWT)’s help, Masjid Al-Ummah will offer much more than prayer services:

1. Health & fitness: A private, fully equipped gym.
2. Youth spaces: Gaming rooms, mentoring programmes, and fun, safe activities.
3. Charity office: Through Ar-Rahmah Trust, offering help to those in need and building sustainable income streams for the community.
4. Food bank: Helping the homeless and anyone struggling in Watford.
5. The Peace Garden: A calm refuge for moments of reflection, gratitude, and peace
6. Quran & Islamic Education: Supporting future hafiz and lifelong learning.
7. Sports hall: Encouraging healthy living for all.
8. Nursery: A caring early-learning space for young children.
9. Elderly Social Areas: Warm, welcoming places to connect and relax.

11. Mortuary Services: Supporting families during difficult times.

Plan and Progress to Date

In January 2025, we raised £3.5m to purchase the St. Thomas’s Church site. We now need to commence the build and need £4 million to complete this project and bring this vision to life.
