Iftar at the Heart of Hounslow

At the centre of Hounslow, the Masjid hums with purpose as the sun leans toward evening. Each Ramadan the doors open wide and the community gathers, students returning from college, people from work, families with tired children, neighbours who find comfort in a shared meal. Last year we served an average of 200 people on weekdays and over 250 on weekends, and this year we prepare for the same, if not greater, need.

Volunteers set long mats, steam rises from pots, and the simple rhythm of pouring tea and filling plates becomes an act of mercy. Conversations begin with the call to prayer and end with laughter and new friendships. In these moments the Masjid is more than a building; it is a living promise that no one in our neighbourhood will break their fast alone.

The Prophet ﷺ taught the power of feeding the fasting: ‘Whoever feeds a person breaking his fast will earn the same reward as him, without anything being lessened from the reward of the fasting person’. This promise turns every cup of tea and every wrapped date into a shared blessing that multiplies for both giver and receiver.
