Current situation.

As of November 10, Malaysia recorded 11,446 active cases and 300 deaths, as reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre under the Ministry of Health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) data as of October, Covid-19 has claimed over 1 million lives and involved over 50 million positive cases in less than a year.

2020 is by far the most challenging year for all of us. Malaysia government has imposed the Movement Control Order (MCO) and outlined standard operating procedures (SOPs) from March 18 until today to sever the chain of infections. However, the Covid-19 does not show any signs of slowing down in the third wave but keep virulently rising and menacing us.

The Covid-19 pandemic and unprecedented nationwide MCO leave dire ramifications on our socio-economy considerably. Poverty has hitched a ride to both rural and urban areas and vagrants are now a common sight. Organizations are scrambling to stay afloat. People in various sectors have been retrenched, many have lost their only source of income, and some have to take a pay cut. Household breadwinners and daily earners are struggling to make ends meet. Not to mention those who are facing mental and emotional distress due to the cost of living and volatile working environment. To conclude, both low and middle-income households either in rural or urban areas are feeling the squeeze over the course of the pandemic Covid-19 crisis. Strengths are becoming frail and not as sturdy as it used to be since many are affected in different means and degree of severity.

From virtual donations to actual contributions.

We are striving to make the unfortunate and the underprivileged feel better with your support. Earlier, the COVID-19 Emergency Appeal campaign has succeeded in benefiting many parties both domestic and international. Among the contributions that have been successfully channeled are:

  • 1000 pieces of N95 face masks to the National Audit Academy (AAN) in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan which served as a quarantine centre for Malaysians repatriated from Iran.
  • 10 units of hospital sleeper chairs to Putrajaya Hospital.
  • RM500 cash assistance for beneficiaries in the Peninsular, Sabah, and Sarawak.
  • 5 units of thermal scanners to Rembau Hospital.
  • Food aid to 60 Rohingya refugee families in Puchong.
  • 2 units pharmaceutical refrigerator for medication/vaccine storage and preservation in Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital, Negeri Sembilan in the collaboration with MRSM Malaysia Student Association (Ansara), Taiping, Perak.
  • 9 boxes of food and beverages for patients and frontliners at the Ampang Hospital Quarantine Centre.
  • Distribution of hygiene kits including hand sanitizer and disinfection gel, soap, glove, face mask, and hygiene measures leaflets to 2,750 Bosnians and 14 local institutions such as medical centres, Islamic communities, ambulances, Islamic faculties, and local TV stations.
  • 7,659 hot meals to the people in Gaza, Palestine who have been quarantined during and after Ramadan.
  • 2,689 food packs to more than 13,000 individuals for a month in 15 regions of Spain.
  • Kindness is a reciprocal act.

Let’s seize this chance to consistently proactive supporting the affected groups of people through the COVID-19 Emergency Appeal. We can accomplish and recur the success of achieving the fundraising target together as we did in the first COVID-19 Emergency Appeal.

Thank you, generous donors, for helping the needy amidst stringently abide by the SOPs outlined by the authorities. However, Covid-19 has yet to be eradicated from the world. We cannot let the needy resilience goes futile. This time, besides undertake the role of frontliners to strengthen our defense, we must not forget to keep our support intact to each other. May Allah protect us all amidst the spike in Covid-19 positive cases nationwide.

Every Muslim has to give in charity.

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Every Muslim has to give in charity.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Prophet! If someone has nothing to give, what will he do?” He said, “He should work with his hands and benefit himself and also give in charity (from what he earns).” The people further asked, “If he cannot find even that?” He replied, “He should help the needy who appeal for help.” Then the people asked, “If he cannot do that?” He replied, “Then he should perform good deeds and keep away from evil deeds, and this will be regarded as charitable deeds.” [Sahih Bukhari, Chapter 24, 524]
