Yemen’s Challenge
Clean Safe Water, Hygiene & Sanitization
Yemen’s conflict for the past 8 years, coupled with hot dry, and dusty weather, has strongly impacted the access to clean water for Yemen. The poor sanitization condition places lives in further danger.
Here, over 18 million people are in urgent need of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) assistance. Clean and safe drinking water is crucial for survival, especially for children & the elderly.
The increase of displaced people in the IDP camps, due to conflicts makes it even more critical for clean and safe drinking water. Otherwise, they stand to be in danger of epidemics outbreaks & with the Covid 19 pandemic lurking around, the situation is in Code Red! With only a quarter of Yemen having piped water supplies, most of them are in a vulnerable state.

Target Group : Poor families, internally displacement people, old folks, homeless and orphans.
Population of Zabid : 52,590
Who are they?: They are the residents of Zabid and Tuhayta in Tihamah region, currently affected many years of civil war & cholera outbreak in Yemen.
Project description -To supply a Clean Water continuously and Hygiene Kit to assist the people of Zabid and IDPs, as a prevention from Cholera and Pandemic Covid-19.
In 2019, Yemen has seen a new upsurge of AWD/suspected cholera cases continue. Since January until the end of June 2019, the caseload of AWD/suspected cholera cases rose to over 400,000. The current outbreak poses a greater threat with a fast spreading of unprecedented scale given that the situation has worsened due to the prolonged conflict affecting the WASH and health system.
PROJECT RATIONALE
Zabid/Hudaidah has been chosen to distribute humanitarian aid because:
The number of suspected cases by cholera is likely to increase due to the total collapse of the health system in Hudaydah. To add salt to the wound, the poor water and hygiene condition, due to the ongoing conflict, coupled with limited access to humanitarian support to the most vulnerable, the people of Zabid have suffered greatly.
Foreign aid has also been blocked frequently by Houthi and Arab Coalition sides from reaching the people there.
In summer, the weather in Zabid easily reaches over 40 Celsius. Life is simply difficult.
Capitalist take advantage of the situation and charges highly for clean water supply. The super high cost of fuels, simply makes situation worse.
How then are the jobless, the poor going to pay? Constantly compromising between food or clean safe water. Poor sanitization, risk the situation further.
This forces some, to turn to dirty water sources, exposing themselves to diseases such as cholera. Already made to flee their homes, hunger and malnutrition is already rampant enough, without this adding to their burden.
We hope and pray, with the water tanks we have already put in place, more donors will join us, to continue supplying, clean safe drinking water.
