A project years in the making

Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh! By the mercy of Allah, we are finally approaching a moment our community has waited years for. Harrogate’s first Masjid is due to open in limited capacity for Ramadan 2026, insha’Allah — the only Masjid serving a 15-mile radius and a rapidly growing Muslim population.

This journey began in 2022, when our small community purchased a long-abandoned former hospital in Harrogate town centre. For over a decade, the building stood empty. Today, through patience, du‘ā’, and your generosity, it is being revived as a house of Allah and a community hub for generations to come.

With your past support on LaunchGood, it has enabled major structural works including a full re-roof, internal steel framework, energy-efficient systems, security works, and compliance with council and building regulations. What once was derelict now stands ready for sujood.

The final step before full opening

To fully serve the ummah and welcome everyone this Ramadan and beyond, we urgently need to complete the final key elements:

• Lift installation: Ensuring accessibility for the elderly, disabled, and parents with children. The estimated cost for this is £30,000.
• Mezzanine fit out: This will provide for classrooms, meeting spaces, and overflow prayer areas for Jumu‘ah and Eid. The estimated costs for this are £60,000
• Exterior restoration and main entrance works: This will allow for ramps, safe access, and a dignified entrance to the house of Allah. The estimated costs for this are £30,000.

Our Ramadan target: £120,000

This Ramadan, we are seeking to raise £120,000 to complete these final works and allow the Masjid to operate.

The Prophet ﷺ said “Whoever builds a Masjid for the sake of Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Jannah.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Every donation is Sadaqah Jariyah — a continuous reward for every prayer, every dhikr, every du‘ā’, every child learning Qur’an, and every community gathering that takes place within these walls. You can make a one-off donation here or join our Ramadan Challenge, which allows you to schedule a small donation every night of Ramadan or for the last 10 nights (and we get bonus funding from Launchgood!). All donations are GiftAid compatible, which means we get an extra 25% of your donation if you are a UK taxpayer.

Give today. Leave a legacy.

This Ramadan, be among those whose charity lives on. Support the opening of Harrogate’s Masjid and share in the reward for generations. Donate generously today and help open the doors of Allah’s house — insha’Allah.

We will posting updates, inshallah, on our social media (X: @harrogateIA, Facebook: @harrogatemuslims, Instagram: @harrogatemuslims) and community WhatsApp group. Our digital inboxes are open either by direct messaging us on our social media platforms or emailing us at [email protected].

We are hoping to have a public launch a few weeks after Eid-ul-Fitr where members of the public can view the building in its entirety, insha’Allah.

Jazakullahkhair and many thanks for your support!
