Who Are We?

Established in 2001 and formally incorporated in 2008, Peaceful Families Project (PFP) is a leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating family-based violence within the diverse Muslim communities of the United States. Rooted in Islamic values, our mission is to foster peace, resilience, and justice by providing culturally and religiously responsive education, advocacy, and support.

The Urgency of Our Work

The numbers are alarming—every minute, nearly 20 individuals in the U.S. experience physical abuse from an intimate partner. Over 10 million women and men are affected by domestic violence each year, leading to severe consequences such as physical injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder, and even death. Within Muslim communities, the need for faith-based, culturally competent solutions is critical. This is why PFP remains at the forefront of addressing domestic violence through education, research, and community-driven action.

What We Do

PFP takes a comprehensive approach to addressing domestic violence that includes prevention, intervention, education, research, and provide representation and consultation at all tables where decisions about Muslim Families are being made at the local, state, and federal level. Through community education, training, and technical assistance, we empower individuals and organizations to recognize and combat domestic violence.

By collaborating with imams, community leaders, social service professionals, educators, youth advocates, and govermental systems we work to ensure a holistic understanding of family-based violence within Muslim communities. Our policy and advocacy efforts extend from grassroots activism to national and international platforms, ensuring that the voices of survivors and advocates shape meaningful change.

We also serve as national technical assistance experts, providing training and consulting services to organizations addressing family-based violence, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive support.

  • Launched two national surveys examining Muslim male attitudes toward family-based violence and Muslim youth experiences with courtship coercion (manipulation, stalking, and threats before marriage).
  • Introduced the National Survey of Muslim Parenting, aimed at gaining insights into parenting practices and challenges within Muslim communities.

  • Secured two federal grants from the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW):
    • One for Engaging Muslim Men and Boys in Domestic Violence Allyship in Charlotte, NC.
    • Another to support underserved Muslim immigrant communities in Central Pennsylvania.
  • Received additional funding from the Barzinji Family Foundation and Mirza Foundation to strengthen our programming.
  • Launched a successful fundraising campaign on LaunchGood, surpassing our $10,000 goal.
