Uyghur Refugees: Ramadan Campaign 2022 

🚨The Crisis 

Uyghurs from East Turkistan are now arguably suffering one of the worst ever humanitarian crises on earth. Islam is 100% banned. Let alone fasting during this blessed month of Ramadan, Uyghurs are not even allowed to address each other with the Islamic greeting "Assalamu Alaykum" (peace be upon you). Millions of Uyghurs have been rounded up in the vast network of concentration camps.  

Rightly so, the world, including US, UK, Canada and the Dutch governments have recently formally declared the atrocities in East Turkistan as Genocide.    

🤲🏼Urgent Support for Uyghur Orphans, Students, Single Mothers, and Families

The Uyghur refugees are facing severe challenges; there are a large percentage of Uyghur refugees without passports or permanent residency, rendering them stateless. Among those most vulnerable are 2400+ Uyghur families, most of them are widows, who were separated from their husbands due to the CCP crackdown, and over one thousand orphans in Turkey, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. 

As a result of the brutal policies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), millions of Uyghurs have been displaced, families torn apart, and children separated. The current COVID-19 pandemic has made matters worse. The entire world has faced enormous challenges. Governments have taken unprecedented steps to provide aide and financial support to its citizens but many vulnerable people are left behind, particularly refugees.  

While the Chinese government has made it impossible to give direct assistance and aid to our family, friends, and countrymen in East Turkistan, we have a responsibility to help those who have managed to escape the crisis and they need our help to prevent another crisis.  

These vulnerable refugees are finding it very difficult to afford proper food, pay rent, utility bills, medical care or the basic cost of living, their situation is deteriorating day by day. They need your help. 

🌙 Reflections

This is our third annual Ramadan Campaign to support Uyghurs in need. With the Will of Allah and your help, Shukr Foundation has managed to provide support to thousands of Uyghur refugees, including widows and children. But we only managed to scratch the surface. We knew we had to try even harder this year. As Allah (s.w.a) has promised he will increase your wealth in this world and in many multiples in the hereafter InshaaAllah.

💌 How We Will Reach the Uyghur Refugees in Need 

The Shukr Foundation team visited Turkey in 2019 and with generous donations we worked hard to attend to the needs of Uyghur refugees. We have seen how truly difficult their situations were even when they were able to work meagre cash-in-hand jobs. These service industry jobs are disappearing quickly because of social distancing measures and economic collapse due to coronavirus. 

For this campaign, we have gathered the information of thousands of vulnerable Uyghur individuals and families through a registration & screening process. We are partnering with the Blue Moon (Mavi Hilal) charity and other reputable government registered organizations in Turkey to distribute and manage the funds. We also have partners in Afghanistan and Pakistan providing aide to our Uyghur brothers and sisters there.

At Shukr Foundation we are committed to transparency and accountability of ensuring the money is distributed in the best way possible. As a registered Australian charity, we are held to rigorous standards by the Australian Government which we uphold. 

🚨What's the issue?

Uyghurs are on the verge of extinction. Our Religion, Culture, Identity and our complete way of life is being erased by the brutal Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It is the duty of Uyghurs in exile to represent the unheard voices of the 35 million Uyghurs, living under the tyranny of the CCP. Uyghurs in the diaspora, all over the world are working tirelessly to tell the world about the atrocities our families are facing. It is imperative that we are equipped with the right resources. 

📺 What is Istiqlal TV?

Istiqlal TV is an online media outlet, dedicated to delivering this very message. Istaqlal TV has been doing an outstanding job over the years, they have an amazing team of dedicated individuals working day and night to deliver the message in four languages, Uyghur, Turkish, Arabic and English. We Uyghurs don't have much, we are fighting for this noble cause with limited resources. Alhamdulillah, the generous support from Muslims and our non Muslim friends have given us the will to push on. We once again are asking for your assistance in keeping our voice heard by supporting Istiqlal TV. Istiqlal TV only needs about US $80,000 per year to keep running.
