As one of the best travel destinations in the world, People worldwide, travel to Bali each year to enjoy its sheer natural beauty and hidden gems. But who knows, Bali also has a sad story where some of the children potentially lose their opportunity to become well-educated generation in the future.

About 15 minutes drive from Kuta, there is an area called Suwung where mountains of trash (garbage piled up) dominate the panorama. This Garbage Mountain spreads over 30 hectares in this area and more than 15 meters high. 2000 Tons of trash come to Suwung every day, causing environmental and socio-economic impacts for the local community in Suwung, including the children.

The pungent smell, slum environment, poor hygiene, furthermore many children cannot go to school due the economic limitation. 

Suwung Community Center is an informal school that provides free education for children who are living in the Suwung Final Disposal Site. Currently, Suwung Community Center has 2 classrooms and playground. School activities run from Monday to Friday at 10am to 5pm. In addition, there are the extracurricular programs and assistance for students and parents which focus on health education program. 

As the number of students increases, Suwung Community Center is committed to build better education facilities and providing education for all children in Suwung Village, Bali. 

This condition inspires Ivan and Alex, two Belgian citizens living in Bali, to help the scavengers' children to go back to school. 

Collaborate with Smile Smart Health Education and Dompet Dhuafa, Ivan and Alex conduct “Bicycle Tour for Charity”, cycling from Jakarta to Bali, an 1.800 km distance, by raising your awareness and collecting donation for these scavengers’ children.

This activity will start on August 17, 2022 from Setiabudi Jakarta, through 14 cities, and ended up at the Suwung Community Center in Denpasar Bali.

The full of donation will be offered to Suwung Community Center to use for:

• Build a new classroom, fully equipped
• A library construction and books
• A new proper playground
• Sanitary facilities (latrine and handwashing facility)
