We're watching a humanitarian tragedy unfold in Ukraine, and civilians are bearing the brunt of it. We can and must help.
Glia will create tourniquets in Canada and in Ukraine, as well as disseminate our experience of how to produce more in battlefield conditions. These tourniquets will be distributed to hospitals and civilians in Ukraine who are at risk of serious injury and death.
The Gaza Tourniquet
The Gaza Tourniquet is a medical device that is put on a wounded arm or leg to stop severe bleeding. At its most basic, people have used belts or cables as tourniquets. However, modern engineering has led to better designs with higher rates of success and easier application. The Gaza Tourniquet is an innovative device that can be applied to children or adults and has a high success rate in field trials in Gaza during the Great March of Return and the 2021 Israeli-led war. With your help, the Gaza Tourniquet can be used now to save lives in Ukraine.
Glia’s International Aid Mission
Glia is receiving requests from international aid agencies and healthcare workers in Ukraine for the Gaza Tourniquet. We are going to respond in two ways: firstly by printing tourniquets in Canada and exporting to Ukrainian hospitals in need. A Glia tourniquet printed in Canada costs $20USD, roughly half the cost of a Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT), the gold standard. With scaling, the first $10,000 can produce 500 units ($20/unit), and a goal of $20,000 can produce 1500 units ($13.33/unit). The remaining funds raised will go toward paying shipping and project costs.
True to Glia’s international mission to keeping knowledge open and publicly available, we will also make the Gaza Tourniquet bill of materials, printing models, and assembly instructions open source. This ensures barrier-free access to this lifesaving design, and will allow anyone with a 3D printer and supplies to create their own tourniquets, whether in Ukraine or elsewhere.

What Happens if the War Ends?
If the war ends before this campaign's goals are achieved, we will redirect the remaining tourniquets and money to other conflicts in which civilians are being injured and in which there is a call for tourniquets.
