The Humanitarian Crisis

The ongoing assault has claimed over 35,800 lives, including 15,000+ children. Thousands more are injured and urgently need medical care. Over 1.9 million people have been displaced, fleeing their homes with only essential belongings.

Gaza's medical facilities are overwhelmed, facing shortages of fuel for generators and rapidly depleting medical supplies. Treating the wounded has become a race against time.

How is MECA & PaliRoots Providing Relief in Gaza Amid the Current Situation? (As of May 2024)

Despite the border closures, the MECA team is actively sourcing food, water, and hygiene kits from local markets away from the crowded areas where many people are currently in tents. We partner with the World Central Kitchen and World Food Programme to supply our community kitchens. When the Egypt border opens, MECA will continue to bring critical aid into Gaza.

Ensuring Food Security

Our kitchens provide close to 200,000 meals each month to families in Gaza. We have distributed 150,760 food parcels containing essential food staples and fresh produce, with each parcel capable of feeding two family in Gaza for 1 weeks. Additionally, 223,650 meals have been provided through Ready to Eat kits donated by our partner, World Central Kitchen. $100 Provides a Family in Gaza with Food for two weeks.

Providing Safe, Clean Drinking Water:

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. In Gaza, the scarcity of clean water has dire effects on the health and well-being of the community. Our organization is committed to ensuring the people of Gaza have access to clean water.

• 752,280 gallons of clean drinking water distributed to displaced families from solar-powered water purification units (including some built by MECA) or water bottles.
• Millions of additional gallons provided to families sheltering at UN schools where we have installed water purification units.
• 2 new water purification units installed for displaced families in Mawasi, providing 5,000 gallons of water daily.

Promoting Hygiene and Health

In our efforts to maintain basic hygiene and health standards for families in Gaza, we have distributed 18,460 hygiene kits. Each kit includes essential items such as soap, shampoo, wet wipes, toilet paper, diapers (as needed), and women's sanitary supplies. These kits help ensure that families can maintain personal hygiene despite the challenging conditions they face.

Programs include direct humanitarian relief as well as projects to help support income generation. Human rights awareness is also improved by encouraging dialogue on an international level. MECA manages the distribution process and the funds will go directly to their organization.
