EMPOWER LIVES OF DISABLED PEOPLE IN RAMADAN:
Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion for Muslims worldwide. However, for many individuals with disabilities, this month can present additional challenges, including financial strain and limited access to essential resources.
Action for Humanity aims to build on the momentum of this blessed month by targeting individuals with disabilities in targeted communities who may need assistance during Ramadan. This includes individuals with physical disabilities, visual impairments, and hearing impairments, all of which can complicate their experiences during this time. Among the most marginalized are disabled individuals who require mobility and dignity. Children with disabilities often remain invisible in society and face numerous barriers to inclusion, including inaccessible physical environments, lack of community awareness, insufficient learning skills, negative attitudes, poverty, and a severe shortage of assistive devices and mobility aids. AFH will collaborate with local disability organizations and community centres to ensure the equitable distribution of support.
Yemen is currently facing one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises. Ongoing conflict and the resulting economic downturn have dived Yemen into a food security emergency, leaving 18.21 million people in need of humanitarian assistance and protection services. Furthermore, the conflict has exacerbated existing socio-economic vulnerabilities and deepened the discrimination experienced by persons with disabilities across the spectrum of economic, social, health, and civil rights.
The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 4.8 million people in Yemen have at least one disability. Individuals with disabilities are among the most marginalized in crisis-affected communities, and their needs are largely unmet. The dire situation for persons with disabilities in Yemen is further exacerbated by widespread displacement. Most internally displaced person (IDP) sites lack adequate basic services, such as accessible shelters and latrines, and are often located far from food distribution points. Services and activities that address the specific needs of persons with disabilities are frequently absent.
Additionally, communication materials and methods used in these camps are not adapted for individuals with visual or hearing impairments, resulting in their exclusion from much of the support and assistance available. Providing supportive tools and materials can foster a sense of belonging for disabled individuals, helping them engage with their families and communities in daily communications and tasks. These often-overlooked individuals will be empowered to advocate for themselves, articulate their needs, and benefit from additional humanitarian assistance.
£390 TO EMPOWER A DISABLED PERSON: This will provide assistive devices and mobility aids such as wheelchairs to those unable to advocate for themselves.
WATER FOR YEMEN:
In Yemen, a staggering 15.3 million people are deprived of access to safe drinking water and reliable sanitation facilities, with the country facing one of the world’s most severe water crises.
Action For Humanity is actively engaging in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of water wells in Sana’a and Lahij, striving to increase access to clean water for more than five war-affected villages by installing solar powered water pumps and rehabilitating water tanks, ensuring a sustainable water supply for 4,200 people.
